David Marcos' Blog. Just another Oracle weblog. Executing sql on all Exadata nodes. Posted by David Alejo Marcos in Exadata. From time to time, I have to run scripts or single commands on all nodes for Exadata. This can take some time. We have a request from our developers to flush the shared pool on all nodes on our UAT Exadata. This is due to a bug we are still experiencing. This is a typical request for my team, were we have to run something on all our nodes. Flushing shared pool can be one of them.

David Marcos' Blog. Just another Oracle weblog. SQL Monitor details for later tuning. Posted by David Alejo Marcos in Exadata. Tuning has always being good fun and something like a challenge for me. From time to time we are being asked to find out why something did run slow while you are sleeping; answering this question is, in most cases, a challenge. My batch did run slow last night, can you let us know why? Or why did this query run slow? Are questions we, as DBAs, have to answer from time to time.

David Marcos' Blog. Just another Oracle weblog. How to list files on a directory from Oracle Database. Posted by David Alejo Marcos in Exadata. Couple of days ago I had an interesting request, “How can I see the contents of nfs dir”? We were using DBFS to store our exports. This was the perfect solution as the business could “see” the files on the destination folder, but it did not meet our requirements performance wise on our Exadata. After some research I came across with the following package:. While ...

http://dbrat.blogspot.com/2011/03/omg-what-do-i-do-database-is-slow-part.html
OMG What Do I Do? The database is slow! Okay, when we last left our heroine, she was bravely dodging the arrows of slow databasity. Well, here's the thing. When someone says their database is slow, what does this mean? I don't mean what's causing it, I mean what is the client really trying to say? Me: "Oh my god! It's just. creeping! Sr DBA DE: "Hmm. When did this start? As he types on something completely unrelated in the background.). Me: "Um, when? Me: Trying not to have the panic show in my voice, I ...

Adventures In DBAsitting: REFRESHING A DATABASE
http://dbrat.blogspot.com/2011/07/refreshing-database.html
No, this is not about how cool and refreshing a database can be, although I certainly do think they can be. This is like one of the most important things a database administrator can do, and just like everything else we do in our jobs there are like 10 DIFFERENT WAYS TO DO IT! So, first way to refresh and the easiest, I swear, is doing a duplicate from a cold backup. OMG, you say, I can't bring my production database down for ANY amount of time, love, nor money! Whatever shall I do! A little background&#...

http://dbrat.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

More vi practicing, how to refresh a database, how to do datapump imports and exports, moving lobs. in fact I am going to move a lob today! Four of them in fact! I'll post about that later. What I really wanted to discuss quickly was how the smallest of changes can really F*& up how a database coughs up information to users.
