Y Tŷ Mawr o'r Tu Mewn: February 2009

Y Tŷ Mawr o'r Tu Mewn. Blog yr Aelod Seneddol Hywel Williams yn adrodd ei hanes yn San Steffan, ac yn ei etholaeth. Thursday, February 26, 2009. Trist heddiw (Mercher) wrth i’r newydd ein cyrraedd fod mab chwech oed David Cameron wedi marw. Bu’r bychan yn dioddef o barlys yr ymenydd ers ei eni. Cafwyd teyrngedau byr am hanner dydd, adeg holi’r Prif Weinidog, ac yna, yn briodol iawn, diddymwyd gweddill y sesiwn. Dyma’r tro cyntaf i mi weld hyn yn digwydd. Pwy i’w dewis tybed? Mae preifateiddio’r Pos...

Tuesday, 29 April 2008. A little ado about what, exactly? Yesterday’s Western Mail. Had a story about Chris Bryant drawing attention to an apparent inconsistency between two senior Plaid Figures. According to the story, Ieuan Wyn Jones welcomed this year's air show at Sophia Gardens, whilst two years ago, Plaid’s Chief Executive, Gwenllian Lansdown condemned a similar event at the same location as being a showcase for arms dealers. Bryant claimed that this showed a major inconsistency. Ordovicius. The pr...

Ceredig: November 2007
http://ceredig.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Friday, 30 November 2007. The real scandal, to me, was that a governing party which pledged to bring transparency to political funding, and passed laws requiring donations to be declared, then proceeded to use a loophole in its own legislation by asking potential donors to turn their gifts into loans so that they would not need to be declared. Tuesday, 25 March 2008. In my previous post, I referred to the statement by Ieuan Wyn Jones on the transport grant settlement. Normal Mouth. Picks up on the same issue, although dealing more with the substance of the issue than the spin. I said in my previous post that ‘green’ is a word with more than one meaning – so is ‘sustainable’. At its basest, politicians seem to interpret it as meaning nothing more than ‘whatever we can get away with’. As long as ...Links to this post. Wednesday, 19 March 2008.

Ceredig: May 2008
http://ceredig.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 28 May 2008. Yesterday’s fuel protests by truckers brought to the forefront some key dichotomies in public attitudes, and drew out some interesting political responses as well. The situation raises a number of different issues at the same time. Fifthly, we all tell politicians that we care about the environment, and want to do more to protect it – until it starts to hurt. Then, we want someone else to pay the ‘green taxes’. Politicians know this, so while they say the...Rail transport already ...

Ceredig: January 2008
http://ceredig.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 30 January 2008. Now, call me cynical, but I think that if a Labour MP had said that, there would have been indignant howls from Plaid quarters, and the words 'dinosaur' and 'Brit-nat' would be flying all over the place. Many have commented previously that the purpose of the Commission, under Emyr Parry-Jones, is far from being clear, and there has always been a suspicion that it was intended, above all else, to simply buy some time. It took one of the most contentious issues in the agreem...

The Cwrt: Expenses
http://cwrt.blogspot.com/2008/08/expenses.html
The Cwrt is the place in the Senedd just outside the Members Tea Room where most of the plotting and skullduggery tends to take place. Saturday, 16 August 2008. This has been covered widely and this blog is not here to repeat anything that's already been said elsewhere. There are just a couple of points I'd like to make:. Questions should be asked of the Ministers and Deputy Ministers who claimed shit loads in mileage payments even though they have taxpayer funded chauffer driven cars at their disposal.
