andalucy: April 2010
http://andalucyblog.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 26, 2010. I was going through old photos and found this. Wow, the memories! We had ourselves some amazing parties in Ecuador. When I was sixteen, it's hard to say if I preferred reading or dancing. I'm trying to catch up on Midmorning shows. (Isn't Kerri Miller the best? Just heard the podcast of this February show. The Book of Mormon. Emma, Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen. Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte. The Woman in White, Wilkie Collins. My Antonia, Willa Cather. And the funny...

andalucy: st. peter's basilica
http://andalucyblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/st-peters-basilica.html
Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Dusk was approaching when we got to St. Peter's. In our guide book it suggested leaving La Pieta for the end of your St. Peter's visit, but I couldn't wait. As soon as I went through the doors I was there. Even remembering the experience of standing before it brings tears to my eyes. It is so powerful. You know how I'm always wanting to touch things? The sky of this nativity changed lighting from day to night. When we came outside it was dark. January 25, 2011 at 11:33 PM.

andalucy: vatican museums: statues
http://andalucyblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/vatican-museums-statues.html
Wednesday, January 19, 2011. One of the first statues we saw was Apoxyomenos, an athlete scraping sweat off. J took this photo just after Maria told the ladies in the group to not miss the back view, which, she said, showed some "nice back muscles." You can see in the photo that even a man admired the back muscles, his jaw dropped in wonder. You all know that if I'd had the camera at this point, I would have taken a picture of the Athlete's back for you. Good thing the internet is so obliging:. And sure ...

andalucy: January 2010

Thursday, January 28, 2010. When I'm homesick (Spain is great but yes, I do miss the good old USA) I go here. The photos accompanied with brief text capture the beautiful in the cotidian in a way that in uniquely American, at least it seems so to me. She also refused to eat any seafood and insisted that no one at the table with her eat seafood, either. In Malaga! I found some funny quotes from essays on "The Typical American". Written by Andrew Lang, a Brit, and Paul Blouet, a Frenchman, published in 1890.

andalucy: October 2010

Thursday, October 28, 2010. Who was the epitome of cool? That's right, my dad. Well. Some of the time. Sometimes he was cool and sometimes he wasn't, but he was always original. Tomorrow we're headed for Morocco. (Squeeeee! We get back Monday night. And guess who turns 40 on Monday? No, not me, although I'm looking forward to it. It's the J man. And he doesn't look a day under 41. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. The decline of fun. When I was home for two weeks this past month I recalled those blissful days...

andalucy: February 2011
http://andalucyblog.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 23, 2011. I don't think, in six years of blogging, I have ever gone this long without posting. There is really no good reason. In case you were wondering, which I'm sure you weren't as you surely have better things to do. I suppose my time has been taken up with other projects. You know, like watching Youtube. Really important stuff. I have been working on some writing that I'm excited about. I'm starting to sleep better. Still not normal. The dancing, of course! I must have been pret...

andalucy: February 2010
http://andalucyblog.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 28, 2010. Feliz dia de andalucia! So, what does the "Er" mean in the above sign? Good question. That's Andalú, the Andalusian dialect. That means that the distinctive Spanish lisp I expected to hear on "z" and "c" is muted almost to "s" like in Latin America. Actually, how they speak here reminds me most of Venzuelan Spanish. Ha ido a comprar. Or "She went out shopping.". Labels: out and about in spain. Saturday, February 27, 2010. Is it just me, or is this very different from the US?
