Shrewsbury’s Coat of Arms: a New Argument | Shropshire Blues
https://shropshireblues.wordpress.com/2015/07/11/shrewsburys-coat-of-arms-a-new-argument
Shrewsbury’s Coat of Arms: a New Argument. I should probably just drop any Facebook page that keeps reviving the argument about whether the first syllable of Shrewsbury should be pronounced Shrow or Shrew (or even Shoe). Not that the topic doesn’t have historical interest: it’s just that some of the people who engage with the discussion have an unpleasant tendency to dismiss anyone pointing out that there are viable alternative views. All that said, I was delighted to read (on Facebook, where else? Well,...

David Harley's Songs. A site about bricklaying. (I'm kidding! Higher quality MP3 converted directly from digitized master). Got a seat facing the engine. So I don’t have to face where I’ve been. Luggage on the rack, no reason to look back. At all my wrecked and reckless gypsy dreams. No more bright lights, no more white lines. Or crashing in the back of the van. No more hustling small-time gigs. I guess time has beaten the band. No more deadlines, no more breadlines. Mr 10%, you’re on your own. This entr...

David Harley's Songs. A site about bricklaying. (I'm kidding! Baby what a groove [demo]. I went to university a very indifferent guitarist and came back able to play Anji (more or less) and Light My Fire a la Feliciano, and with one or two fairly average songs, so I guess my time there wasn’t entirely wasted. Though you might disagree if you actually listen to this. Anyway, this was, I guess, one of the first of my own songs to make its way into my repertoire, even if it was a bad case of wishful thinking.

Blues for Davy | David Harley's Songs
https://davidharleysongs.wordpress.com/2013/03/03/blues-for-davy
David Harley's Songs. A site about bricklaying. (I'm kidding! A short, vaguely jazzy solo guitar piece. Neither version here is actually a studio recording, but (under-)recorded on fairly expensive domestic equipment. As the title might suggest, I was trying for something vaguely Davy Graham-ish: so successfully, that people used to come up to me after gigs and say What was that John Renbourn piece you did? I’m going to need to practice a while before I do this one in public again, anyway. March 3, 2013.
