Parents' Page: Firewood and Preparation
http://larandmo.blogspot.com/2010/09/firewood-and-preparation.html
Monday, September 13, 2010. The wood should have been cut, split and stacked in the late Spring. Green wood doesn't burn very well. Furthermore, the wood should be protected from the rains. Wet wood doesn't burn very well, either. There seems to me to be a profound lesson in this wood-storing story. Good preparation is not a last-minute activity. It requires knowledge of our circumstances, advance planning and diligence. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Rachel Hixon, 26 March 2008.

Thursday, October 28, 2010. New Commandments (and Proverbs) for Hixon kids. Thou shalt not wear athletic socks to church. Thou shalt not text while driving, including “just checking to see who it is from”. When thou kneelest for family prayer, thine shoulders should be higher than thine hips. Thou shalt not speed. Slamming thy bedroom door only serves to increase thy trouble. When thou removest thine shoes from off thine feet, do not leave them in the kitchen or entry. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Thou s...

Thursday, January 27, 2011. When Natalie heard that Erika got a shot yesterday, she commented, “When I do that, Mom HAS to go with me.”. Kara is in Utah this week, so I suppose a little “motherly longing” is in order. But I asked, “Why? Couldn’t you just go with me? She said, “Mom holds my hand and tells me that it’ll be OK. No offense, but her voice is so soothing.”. Don’t worry, no offense taken hearing that my daughter’s soul is greatly calmed by her mother’s voice. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Kara took Ryan shopping for school clothes yesterday and he complained that she “talked too much” with store workers. Kara? C’mon. I know my frame of reference may be a little warped but Kara? Kara told me that all she said was “Do you have these loafers in a 10? 8221; That is it. When we started unloading our things onto the counter I gave her a flirtatious look. Never mind that I was there clothes shopping with my mommy, I was 21 and on the prowl! 8220;What is this? 8221; I ...

Wednesday, February 9, 2011. Natalie came into my study with teeming handfuls of change. She asked if I would give her a five-dollar bill for five dollars of change. I agreed and she dumped the change onto my desk. Then I told her I was unsure if I had a five-dolllar bill in my wallet at the time, but I promised to pay her tomorrow. She then said, “Well, if you don't then I want my coins back.”. Who does she think I am? Does she think that I’ll swindle her? Am I not good for an overnight, five dollar IOU?

Friday, October 31, 2008. Cheaper by the Dozen. I recently watched the movie “Cheaper by the Dozen” (The new one with Steve Martin.) I like the movie. I could relate as I was raised in a large family. There were not 12 children but almost; just 10. The most common question I hear when others learn of my family size is “How did you keep track of everyone.” There are two answers. He told me to hold on, and then I could hear him asking someone, “Do we have a David? However, one thing remains constant: It wa...

Sunday, November 16, 2008. I needed to buy gasoline Saturday but the station was teeming. I pulled up near the first bank, figuring to just wait until someone left but since I couldn’t really see a few of the pumps, I decided to circle once, you know, just to get a bird’s-eye view. Every spot was taken, and while I was circling, someone else had claimed my waiting spot. Waiting spot to some Nordic-looking young dude and his girlfriend. I think his name was Thor. You could totally replace Dave Barry.

Monday, April 5, 2010. And here is our proof:. Our garden is awash with bright colors again this year. We may not have Vermont fall hues or intermountain west snows, but we do have spring. Our neighborhood bees and hummingbirds are happy now. And so are we! Roses are my favourites! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Complaining is not thinking. Ridiculing is not reasoning. Thursday, June 25, 2009. So long as Sara keeps stocking her showers with this stuff, I'm buying stock in Dole and Del Monte. . Wednesday, June 17, 2009. For my birthday in April, I received a gift card for a wonderful little store on Santa Barbara Street near De La Guerra that sells cheese! All kinds of mostly European cheeses. I love cheeses! Everything Except a Gun Rack and a Dog! So I finally did it! What else could I want? Oh, I dunno . maybe something to pull with that hitch? Or Silver Fox RV Park!
