A year in p. Ixels was a reaction to Passing Time. Where the latter was created using thousands of images, A year in p. Ixels reduced the photographic image to its smallest point, by using a pixel derived from a photograph taken each day of my 40th year. Again this reflects the digital aspect of our lives, but in a wholly reductive way. While Passing Time addresses the busyness and claustrophobia of modern living, A year in p.

I was born on 10 May 1970 in Plymouth, and currently live in Cambridge. With my 40th birthday looming, I decided to take a journey between these two famous, historical places. The camera I used was a cheap secondhand 35mm instant affair, with a lens that slightly distorted the image at the edges. This gave the resulting pictures an old-fashioned retro feel, reminding me of family snapshots from when I was a child.

The works are centred on four locations: Plymouth and Saltash, Horley, Worthing and London – all prominent in the first eight years of my life. When I look back to these times and places I feel a sense of loss, a kind of homesickness. These feelings have stayed with me throughout my life, and I’m constantly drawn back to these locations.

In Loving Memory of David, DeDe, Luke and Ryan Houghton. Luke’s Birthday Today. July 26, 2017. We’ve been thinking about the family a lot as my mom just passed away yesterday. We see many pictures with her holding her grandson. It’s been hard. We love Luke. He was a good reader and stayed up late at night reading books.
