TOMORROWVILLE: A Book Any Aspiring Novelist Ought to Read (A Vine-Ripened Review)
http://davidisaak.blogspot.com/2007/02/book-any-aspiring-novelist-ought-to.html
David Isaak's blog about his debut novel SHOCK AND AWE- plus thoughts on writing, reading, publishing, joining the Macmillan New Writing family, and whatever else comes to mind. Saturday, February 10, 2007. A Book Any Aspiring Novelist Ought to Read (A Vine-Ripened Review). First, a confession: I read a lot of books on the topic of writing. Some are good, some are bad, and most are indifferent, but after you’ve read a few, you seldom find anything new. Why, then, do I continue to read them? Walsh—f...

David Isaak's blog about his debut novel SHOCK AND AWE- plus thoughts on writing, reading, publishing, joining the Macmillan New Writing family, and whatever else comes to mind. Monday, December 6, 2010. A Caution to Female Readers. A quote from O.S. Fowler's. Novel reading redoubles this nervous drain begun by excessive study. What is or can be as ruinous to the nerves as that silly girl, snivelling and laughing by turns over a 'love story'? Even in a Large-Print Edition? 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000...
TOMORROWVILLE: Why Read Books On Writing, Anyhow?
http://davidisaak.blogspot.com/2008/01/why-read-books-on-writing-anyhow.html
David Isaak's blog about his debut novel SHOCK AND AWE- plus thoughts on writing, reading, publishing, joining the Macmillan New Writing family, and whatever else comes to mind. Monday, January 14, 2008. Why Read Books On Writing, Anyhow? Suroopa Mukherjee, who penned. Across the Mystic Shore. Asked me this question (rather less bluntly) in the Comment trail. I don't think art can be taught. But I do think that craft can be taught, and that art employs craft. And "Do real writers ever feel this way?

In fact, I love doing that, and I even do it in first-person POV, though that makes it a far trickier matter, since the only narrative voice allowed in first-person is that of the narrator. But give something like.

Sam Hayes: Another one from Russia with love...
http://samhayes.blogspot.com/2011/02/another-one-from-russia-with-love.html
Thursday, 10 February 2011. Another one from Russia with love. Russian cover of TELL TALE - 'THE INFORMER'. This time it's Big Bird and a little ballet dancer but oh how I love it, despite it being rather sinister-looking! It's the cover of Tell Tale and my Russian contact (aka my Dad's wife - see my piece in the Sunday Times Style magazine this week for more on that story! And soon I'll be adding Dutch and Norwegian covers with the ink still wet on contracts for more titles sold in these countries.

Sam Hayes: N is for NaNoWriMo
http://samhayes.blogspot.com/2011/11/n-is-for-nanowrimo.html
Wednesday, 2 November 2011. N is for NaNoWriMo. Considering all the NaNoWriMo. Excitement around at the moment, I just had to make it N in my A-Z. November is a month of furious novel writing, a creativity-filled four weeks with thousands of writers around the world bent over their keyboards hammering out a little over sixteen hundred words a day. I'm not actually signed up for it but quite wish I was, given all the goings-on and banter at the moment. So what is NaNoWriMo? Get it down, bash/churn/hammer ...
THEN AGAIN: Torment Post x8 Combo: The Queer Thing III
http://jakejesson.blogspot.com/2013/03/torment-post-x8-combo-queer-thing-iii.html
Friday, March 22, 2013. Torment Post x8 Combo: The Queer Thing III. And Colin McComb, in two separate places, has now directly addressed all the concerns I had! Colin McComb is the creative lead, the guy running this entire fuckin' shebang, so I really could not be happier. Seriously. I'm ecstatic. Regarding 'letting queer people exist', he responded to this question:. To which I can say: HEAR, HEAR. (And to Colin's comment, FUCK YES.). Until Formspring shuts down, which I hear it's gonna). If you're won...

Tuesday, March 26, 2013. New blog is here: http:/ jakejesson.wordpress.com/. And I'm transitioning to using that now. UPDATE: Deleted a few recent duplicated posts. If you came here looking for them, you'll find them at the link above. Links to this post. Monday, March 25, 2013. THEN AGAIN: 2013 Goals: Week 9 Postmortem
http://jakejesson.blogspot.com/2013/03/2013-goals-week-9-postmortem_13.html
Wednesday, March 13, 2013. 2013 Goals: Week 9 Postmortem. Novel: [TOO LOW] / 35,000 words. Yeah, this is presenting some difficulty. I'm somewhat regretting taking all that time off in January. Really threw me off, especially since over the last couple weeks I've had a large number of "bad days" in terms of production. I'll have to remember that next time I'm tempted to start a fairly big (1-month) project in the middle of a really giant (8-month) project. Working Out: 4/4 times. Who writes all this crap?
THEN AGAIN: Midweek Novel Update
http://jakejesson.blogspot.com/2013/03/midweek-novel-update.html
Friday, March 1, 2013. Vastly rewrote one and a half chapters today. I hated both chapters when I woke up this morning, and I quite like them now, so that's hopefully a good sign. CURRENT WORD COUNT: 18,240. I should have been at 28,000 words last week, and by this coming Tuesday, I should be at 31,500 words. Let's pretend I'm going to be caught up on Tuesday, and give myself some possibly unrealistic mini-goals. Wow Yeah, that is. Sort of unrealistic. It's not impossible. We'll see what I can do. 2013 G...
THEN AGAIN: I Have Acquired A New Skill
http://jakejesson.blogspot.com/2013/03/i-have-acquired-new-skill.html
Friday, March 8, 2013. I Have Acquired A New Skill. And it is a skill that will not do me much good in ordinary life, or indeed for too many years in the future, so it's a good thing that it wasn't a skill that took me too long to acquire. The skill is: Creating custom weapons and items for Borderlands. The other reason. Well. For those of you who don't know, Borderlands is a game based in large part about acquiring ridiculous amounts of entertaining guns and associated loot. Of it, but a chunk of it, in...
THEN AGAIN: Torment Post x9 Combo: The Queer Thing IV
http://jakejesson.blogspot.com/2013/03/torment-post-x9-combo-queer-thing-iv.html
Monday, March 25, 2013. Torment Post x9 Combo: The Queer Thing IV. A follow-up on the David Gaider thing from this post: http:/ jakejesson.blogspot.com/2013/03/torment-post-x6-combo-queer-thing.html. The Torment devs deleted the 'Gayder panders to minorities! Thread from their forums entirely. Apparently they agreed that it was rather disgusting. But not before Gaider himself responded, on the Bioware forums. I see I've become synonymous with BioWare, have I? All this is doing is tempting me to try to pr...

Wednesday, December 22, 2010. Leiningen Versus the Ants. Did anyone else ever read that Carl Stephenson short story. I read it quite young (though long after it was published- it dates back to 1938). It made a deep impression on me, although I failed to remember the title, and only found it again years later by asking around.
