A Challenge to Artists. Laquo; Internet as Frame part II, Minimalism. Why is it so difficult to be an artist? Posted by Karl Zipser. On April 29th, 2006. To be an artist today is to confront continual uncertainty. There is economic uncertainty, and also uncertainty of purpose. Modern society. There is far more wealth in the world today to purchase art than in any time past. The difficult position of artist today is therefore something of a mystery. Is art school worthless? Posted by Birgit Zipser. On April 19th, 2012. Thinking that learning to draw the human figure might help me drawing the soft shapes of Michigan’s Sleeping Bear Dunes. I took lessons at springstudiosoho.com. For the last few months. With charcoal on a 24 x36 inch pad, I drew poses that were held from 1 to 20 minutes. For the 20th anniversary of the studio, the drawing below was exhibited. Minerva Durham’s comment on taking the picture was: ‘You have moments’ which made me feel wonderful. As well as craft?

What I Did Last Summer. On January 21st, 2012. Nice weather, a substantial amount of basic material, a collection of experimental artifacts and a weed burner led to these objects. It boils down to the discovery that, sufficiently heated, acrylic plastic will deform and and fuse together, one item to another. More… ». On November 11th, 2011. Laquo; Reflections On A Lake. Posted by Birgit Zipser. On June 9th, 2010. View from Empire Bluff, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan. Oil on maple, 24 x 18 inches. This spring, I started sketching landscapes on paper rather than only photographing them. My first motif was the view from a bluff. Doing an oil painting on site would be cumbersome because it would mean dragging supplies uphill along a 20 min hike. To the World Exposition of 1900 in Paris that was inspired by the radiolarian drawings. In middle Ma...

David Paltiel :: Summer 2007 :: Austria, Bavaria, & Liechtenstein
Sunday, July 29, 2007. I had very low expectations for Zürich. I thought everyone would be in business suits and the city would have nothing but banks, but I really enjoyed the couple of museums I went to. The city is situated at a riverhead (like many cities in Switzerland), which makes for perfect scenic strolls. Filled with paintings. Though there was a bad fire in 1993, some of the paintings are still on display. The only other thing I saw was the Löwendenkmal. My favorite overheard line of the trip?
