Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Looking To Make Your Story Ours. This is a copy of the Weekly Email we send to members of Congregation B'nai Tzedek. Please feel free to share:. On NPR a few months ago they ran a story about a magazine that challenges famous people to write six-word stories about their own life. They published six-word stories from people like Gloria Steinam (“Life is one big editorial meeting”) and Molly Ringwald (“Acting is not all I am”). The Torah is characterized by its terseness. Think ab...

Rabbi Young's Blog: Telling the Story: 36 Rabbis
http://rabbiyoung.blogspot.com/2014/03/telling-story-36-rabbis.html
Monday, March 24, 2014. Telling the Story: 36 Rabbis. When the great Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov saw misfortune threatening the Jews, it was his custom to go into a certain part of the forest to meditate. There he would light a fire, say a special prayer, and the miracle would be accomplished and the misfortune averted. I do not know how to light the fire, but I am still able to say a prayer.”. And again, the miracle would be accomplished. It was sufficient, and the miracle was accomplished. Childhood can...

Rabbi Young's Blog: 35 Horas en Antigua, Guatemala (35 hours in Antigua, Guatemala)
http://rabbiyoung.blogspot.com/2014/01/35-horas-en-antigua-guatemala-35-hours.html
Saturday, January 4, 2014. 35 Horas en Antigua, Guatemala (35 hours in Antigua, Guatemala). I landed Saturday at 9PM and I take off today, Monday, at 8AM. Not nearly enough time here, but it was time well spent. When I arrived at my hotel I was greeted by Alejandro, whose weak English combined with my weak Spanish allowed us to understand one another just enough for him to show me around as if I were staying in his home. Mine overlooked a lap pool and a small yard with a picnic table. Do you speak Hebrew?

Rabbi Young's Blog: Loss of a Hero

Saturday, December 14, 2013. Loss of a Hero. Some may say heaven has another angel tonight. Some may say it was meant to be. Some may say his suffering ended tonight. We will all say no one should have to bury their child. I am not a part of this story. I did not know his family except for a handshake and a quick conversation. "You did this project? Tonight a family lost their son, brother, grandson. A community lost its little superhero. I am not a part of this story, but I am so entrenched in it that I...

Rabbi Young's Blog: December 2012

Monday, December 17, 2012. Often at this time of year we are so focused on Chanukah and preparing for a hiatus from school and/or professional life that we get the Andrew Lloyd Weber version of this week’s Parashah:. Pharaoh has a dream, Joseph interprets it correctly and becomes Vizier. His brothers come to buy some food during the Egyptian surplus; Joseph frames one of them for stealing, tune in again next week for more. Insert song and dance. 8220;the spirit of God.”. Such a strange question to ask.

Rabbi Young's Blog: August 2012
http://rabbiyoung.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 31, 2012. Right now, we are in the month of. The month before the new year of Rosh Hashanah. The 28 days of the month provide a chance for a sort of ‘spiritual calisthenics,’ as we prepare for the 10 holy days that include Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Our rabbis teach us that we are supposed to do. The day before we die. Of course, we don’t know when that day is, and so we challenge ourselves to perform acts of. Every day. But as we know, this is easier said than done. Song of Songs,.

Thursday, September 12, 2013. Changing the World: Rosh Hashanah 5774. I hope you have all seen the recent movie “Lee Daniel’s The Butler.” If not, spoiler alert: the boat sinks at the end. The power one person has to change the world. Healing the eternal. Every time we make a positive change in the world we are healing God. We connected with the Carters and enabled them to live in the home they own in the city they love. We brought together their Divine Spark with ours, and healed that part of the un...
