The loop is pulled under the varras from the bottom. A needle nose pliers is very helpful at this stage. The string is then pulled through the loop and pulled taught. Pulling the first string under the varras with needle nose pliers. Pulling a string through the loop in the string so that it wraps around the varras. Zither Pin String Technique.

David P. Rueckert. Plugging Screw Holes and Gluing the Ponsi. The countersunk screw holes on the sides of the kantele were filled with walnut plugs. These were hammered in with a little wood glue using a wood block to protect the instrument. Would I be able to build the kantele using a construction method that required countersunk screw holes? Fitting and aligning the grain of the walnut plugs (to the degree possible) before gluing and hammering into place. This entry was posted in Kantele Construction.
