I really also like how Jack and Mrs. Stretchberry developed a close and trusting relationship through his writing/poetry notebook. If he was a bit reserved the notebook gave him a place where he could talk to her and he felt safe doing it in his notebook. I have many kids that I think a notebook would serve them well as a place to communicate with me. 🙂 I loved seeing your Yellow Dog!

2nd Grade Poetry Project. Mrs Harris' Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. April 14, 2010. My first idea for my journal invitation was to create a brochure type theme: “travel with me into writing.” Immediately after beginning the brochure, I realized that too much text at once would overwhelm my second graders. A few days later, I was looking at the stack of leftover tissue boxes from Valentine’s and got a new idea! What is a writer’s notebook? Why should I keep a notebook? Mrs Harris even has one.

I think the experience of composing my own poems will allow me to more authentically help my students embrace poetry. I love candles. I light candles on a daily basis… I love the power of a good scent. The smell of cinnamon can wake me up and give me energy while the smell of lavendar can relax me. So much depends upon my planner. It gives me peace of mind. I am quick and agile.
