Our New Life In New Zealand
Dawes Family in New Zealand: September 2008
http://dawesinnz.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 29, 2008. Yes these delightful little darlings were only a few of the overall amount we found in the garden today! I decided to tackle the garden. A good idea at the time but I certainly did not realise how much work it would be! The house is on 942 square metres of land, and looking at the 'odd bits' that I thought could do with a tidy up, ended up in a mammoth 3 hours in the garden! I can tell my 30's are sneaking up on me now (ha ha). Oh and the snails? Well that photo above is just ...

Dawes Family in New Zealand: August 2008
http://dawesinnz.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 30, 2008. As you know Denver. Is now part of our family, from the moment we saw him at the SPCA. We knew he was the one for us. The journey over the last 4 months has been amazing, we have laughed (he is a clumsy puppy), cried (he likes to eat our garden plants! And been totally amazed as to how much he has grown! See photo below as demonstrated by Bethany! Now we knew when we got him that he was somewhat a mix of Bullmastiff. At Paws In The City. The classes are held in Aro. We met Juli...
Dawes Family in New Zealand: Bush Fires
http://dawesinnz.blogspot.com/2009/03/bush-fires.html
Tuesday, March 17, 2009. Yet one thing we can't escape being on the other side of the world are the issues that affect our every day lives. Things like earthquakes, landslides and flooding are all every day occurrences here in New Zealand, but worse still on the hot days we are plagued by bush fires. Of course most of you will know about the horrific happenings in Australia. Our neighbour. The unbelievable bush fires that ripped through most of Victoria. This story from April 2007. We hate our neighbours'.
Dawes Family in New Zealand: Meeting John Grogan
http://dawesinnz.blogspot.com/2009/03/meeting-john-grogan.html
Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Does the name sound familiar? Well it should do, Mr John Grogan. Is the author of Marley and Me. You may know it better from the blockbuster movie. That is showing in the cinema right now. Afterwards we got to meet John and have a little chat whilst he signed his new book which I had just bought that evening. I was also cheeky enough to ask for a photo! It was truly inspirational listening to John. He was an ordinary man (and still is of course! Who wrote a story from the heart...

Kiwis Have Wings...: February 2009
http://kiwishavewings.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
And they know how to use them. Taking my family from Massachusetts, USA to New Zealand. Wednesday, 25 February 2009. We got through it. We have a house, which we love. But the process was more than slightly annoying. Apparently not. It only meant that they would negotiate with the others first, and then if an agreement wasn't reached, the sellers could reach out to whomever they want. Really sketchy, right? And we were all, "NO. That is our FINAL offer." And they took it. Blah Leaves a bad taste, eh?
Kiwis Have Wings...: June 2010

And they know how to use them. Taking my family from Massachusetts, USA to New Zealand. Sunday, 27 June 2010. US Expats must keep the IRS informed. One of the many joys of being a US citizen is that you get to file yearly tax returns to the IRS for the rest of your life no matter where you live! Most people know that little tidbit, and obviously heaps of people decide to move overseas regardless. So April 15 continues to be a day of reckoning for us expats. The annual due date for filing Form TD F 90-22&...
Kiwis Have Wings...: The Big One
http://kiwishavewings.blogspot.com/2010/09/big-one.html
And they know how to use them. Taking my family from Massachusetts, USA to New Zealand. Saturday, 4 September 2010. Napier is far enough away from Christchurch that we didn't feel the huge 7.1 earthquake that hit there early this morning. But it's certainly a wake up call for us all here in New Zealand, because such a quake could happen anywhere, at anytime. We've got a basic first aid kit, but that's about it. We don't even have a working flash light. Time to get on that. 7 December 2015 at 2:22 AM.
Kiwis Have Wings...: Still Not Prepared
http://kiwishavewings.blogspot.com/2010/09/still-not-prepared.html
And they know how to use them. Taking my family from Massachusetts, USA to New Zealand. Sunday, 12 September 2010. Despite my claims last week that I was going to put together a survival kit, I haven't. This even despite the fact that since the big South Island quake hit last Saturday, here in Hawke's Bay we've had three. Good sized shake ups. I've made two main adjustments in my life because of the increased worry of a big earthquake hitting:. Yes but still go ahead and make an emergency kit! Hey, very ...
Kiwis Have Wings...: Ice Cream
http://kiwishavewings.blogspot.com/2009/11/ice-cream.html
And they know how to use them. Taking my family from Massachusetts, USA to New Zealand. Friday, 27 November 2009. For some reason a lot of people here are under the impression that New Zealand is internationally known for having great ice cream. On multiple occasions when the fact comes up that I don't like New Zealand ice cream I hear, "But New Zealand is supposed to make the best ice cream in the world! Maybe a news show did a report once stating this? Maybe Kiwis learn it in school? Co-worker: . Ew.

Kiwis Have Wings...: July 2009
http://kiwishavewings.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
And they know how to use them. Taking my family from Massachusetts, USA to New Zealand. Friday, 31 July 2009. Let's start with the job stuff. I managed to find, relatively easily actually, a computer programming job here in little old Napier. Obviously I consider myself extremely lucky, given the economic environment right now. And I tell myself that jobwise I couldn't have done any better, even in Boston. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Enter your email address:. What I Won't Miss.

And they know how to use them. Taking my family from Massachusetts, USA to New Zealand. Sunday, 23 August 2009. There are no deciduous trees native to New Zealand. Though many trees that drop all their leaves in fall have been introduced, the natives are all either fern, conifer, or what Wikipedia refers to as broadleaf. Sunday, 9 August 2009. I've posted on my tumblr. About the cold here. Friday, 7 August 2009. New Zealand's most popular web site, apparently, is Trade Me. This week, I won another auctio...
Kiwis Have Wings...: Surcharge, Yeah Right!
http://kiwishavewings.blogspot.com/2010/06/surcharge-yeah-right.html
And they know how to use them. Taking my family from Massachusetts, USA to New Zealand. Monday, 7 June 2010. Surcharge, Yeah Right! Wandering around town centres in New Zealand today, a recent expat might wonder what's with all the "No surcharge" signs outside eating establishments. Commonly, you'll see food shops trying to differentiate themselves by posting that they don't. Charge a holiday surcharge. See a few examples of signs that were out today in Napier.
