Diary of a Seamstress: ~Two Wedding Gifts
http://diaryofaseamstress.blogspot.com/2014/10/two-wedding-gifts.html
Saturday, October 25, 2014. A couple of my midwifery friends got married this year and I finally finished their wedding gifts! Everything is 100% cotton and easy to wash. I hope they find it all to be useful in their new homes! I used Paisley Pincushion's Reversible Scalloped Apron Pattern. To make the two aprons. For the knitted cotton dischloths, I used the free Grandmother's Favorite pattern. What have you all been making lately? Posted by Bethany Lynn. Saturday, October 25, 2014. You can find me at.

Diary of a Seamstress: November 2011

Monday, November 28, 2011. Christmas Star Wall Hanging. Hanging sleeve and care label). 100% cotton "quilter's cotton" and polyester low loft batting. I don't remember how I got it but the pattern and all the fabric was picked out for me in a kit. Normally, I like to pick everything out myself but I thought I should use the kit since I had it. Plus, this is the first of many Christmas presents and these fabrics definitely looked like what the recipient would like. Posted by Bethany Lynn. 100% wool. O...

History in my Wardrobe: Regency Undergarments
http://aylwen.blogspot.com/2012/01/regency-undergarments.html
Jan 1, 2012. Most regency women wore a set of stays underneath their gowns. They were either short stays or a fuller body stay with cording for strength. They supported the body and lifted the bust but did not bring in the waist - that was to come during the Victorian period. Below are some examples of extant undergarments. Living with Jane: May 2014
http://livingwithjane.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 4, 2014. 18th Century: Caraco Jacket (aka - Mrs. Claus). Unfortunately, once it came together, all I could think of was Christmas and Mrs. Claus. Seriously. It's all I think of. I'm having a hard time enjoying the shape, the effort that went into it, the detail, the decoration. I notice nothing but the color scheme. Blah! I feel like the white trim is too big, but that might be my Regency sensibilities kicking in. My Caraco was highly influence by this gorgeous one at The Met. The Ultimate Sp...

Living with Jane: July 2015

Wednesday, July 22, 2015. The next piece of the puzzle might just give it all away. It was bound to happen sooner or later, I suppose. Let's take a look at my Vernet fashion plate hat, beginning with some fashion plate inspiration (Vernet not included, of course.). Dome-shaped- Center column, row 1 and 2. Right column, row 2. Flat top- Left column, row 1 and 3. Center column, row 3. Right column, row 1 and 4. Flat top- Left column, row 2. Center column, row 3 and 5. Right column, row 2. I started by maki...

Living with Jane: June 2015

Monday, June 15, 2015. Vernet 1814: Ruff and Chemisette - Side Trip.Sort Of. Another hint about my Vernet fashion plate. the top of my gown is covered by.something. So, and here's the fun part, I get to imagine what it would look like without that something! When looking through some fashion plates I found this one from the 1811 edition of Costume Parisian, and fell in love with the shoulder ruffles. It will compliment the hem line of my Vernet gown. *wink*wink*. I left off the ruffle at the waistline si...

Thursday, July 31, 2014. Historical Food Fortnightly: Challenge #5: Pies. For this Historical Food Fortnightly. Challenge, I think I went a little over-board. Not just sweet pies, but savory ones too. Besides the fact that a well made pie tastes good, I love pies because they are self contained, and aesthetically pleasing. There's also something about them that makes me think of a room full of hobbits - or a dark, smoke filled tavern where Aragorn lurks in the corner. The cooked vegetable pie. English/Am...

Diary of a Seamstress: Changing Seasons ~Take 1
http://diaryofaseamstress.blogspot.com/2010/11/changing-seasons-take-1.html
Thursday, November 18, 2010. Changing Seasons Take 1. I finished this dress for my mom last week in time for her to wear to church on Sunday. It is fashioned out of a simple cotton using Baker Lane's Changing Seasons pattern. I really love this pattern because it has several neckline variations and collar options. The skirt is a basic gore design but by following the suggestions, there seem to be unlimited options! It might seem rather expensive, but you do get what you pay for! PS: Some of you all asked...

Diary of a Seamstress: January 2012
http://diaryofaseamstress.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Collar with neck gusset and shoulder reinforcement. Hem and side vent. 100% linen navy/white check. JP Ryan Men's Shirt pattern View A. I sewed the whole shirt by hand and did more flat felling than what was suggested. I wanted it to be a keep sake but also hold up with hard use from my dad. Putting lots of time into things seems to help that combination- sentimentality and durability :). Posted by Bethany Lynn. Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Links to this post. Links to this post.
