Day by Day with María. Walk with me. together let us find God in the every day of life. Saturday, May 11, 2013. Since my Arroz con Gandules recipe. Went over so well, this time I’m sharing one of my favorite Cuban side dishes. 8212;one I will fight you over, to the last platanito. But in Cuban cooking plátanos maduros are served “as is.”. They go well as a side dish to pork or with black beans and rice. But it can also be served on its own as an appetizer. Two ripe plantains with black skin. Slice the pl...

Day by Day with María. Walk with me. together let us find God in the every day of life. Thursday, May 23, 2013. It's the littlest of things: Lisieux and Honfleur. After a beautiful drive through hills and farmlands, our pilgrimage through the French countryside. In the small town of Lisieux. In northwestern France, where Saint Thérèse. Day by Day with María. Walk with me. together let us find God in the every day of life. Sunday, August 16, 2015. Beer, birthdays and butt paste. Pat walking the Camino de Santiago, 2003. Yearning for a new way will not produce it. Only ending the old way can do that. You cannot hold onto the old, all the while declaring that you want something new. The old will defy the new;. The old will deny the new;. The old will decry the new. There is only one way to bring in the new. You must make room for it.
Day by Day with María: orienting my heart
http://www.daybydaywithmaria.blogspot.com/2013/09/orienting-my-heart.html
Day by Day with María. Walk with me. together let us find God in the every day of life. Monday, September 30, 2013. We in L’Arche are beginning to touch something of the mystery that people like Saint Vincent de Paul grasped when he said: ‘The poor are our teachers.’”. The poor must not be someone who is tolerated and put up with, but someone who is waited for and expected.”. 8220;Saint Vincent de Paul saw that one truly intelligent way to follow Christ is to recognize our own spiritual poverty and to se...

On reading the Bible in public – Bus Stop Jesus
https://busstopjesus.wordpress.com/2014/04/06/on-reading-the-bible-in-public
On reading the Bible in public. We’re in the homestretch with Lent. With just two more weeks until Easter. This week will be difficult but Holy Week will be better, due to the oh-so-close feeling of being inches away from Easter Sunday. (Forgive me Father, for I am a Lenten whiner.). I’ve been pretty good with my Lenten sacrifices, but not perfect. It’s been easier to succeed with the #LentChallenge of reading the entire New Testament. April 6, 2014. Schooled by the bus stop lady. Whispers in the Loggia.
This is what God looks like – Bus Stop Jesus
https://busstopjesus.wordpress.com/2014/10/12/this-is-what-god-looks-like
This is what God looks like. I’ve battled depression on and off for nearly 30 years. During that time, I’ve had three bad episodes, week-long events when I needed help with my family life so I could make it to doctor’s appointments and throw darts at a medication chart to see what help might present itself to me. Tiny, beautiful candles from my daughter dropped off in the middle of a Sunday afternoon…. October 12, 2014. Schooled by the bus stop lady. Kim Davis, gay marriage and true Christian persecution.
About this blog – Bus Stop Jesus
https://busstopjesus.wordpress.com/about
I have opinions, mostly about parenting, relationships, politics and religion, but sometimes also about food and freedom and laser tag. Unlike much of what’s out there in the inter-webs today, my opinions are born out of experience – both as a newspaper columnist and someone who has lived a few decades – and an examination of facts. What you learn on the bus – Bus Stop Jesus
https://busstopjesus.wordpress.com/2014/10/01/what-you-learn-on-the-bus
What you learn on the bus. First: You see that, for the most part, it really is true that the people who ride the bus are the poor. You count yourself lucky that riding public transportation is a choice for you, something you can decide you. To do to get to work or school. Third: You see that the poor all look pretty dang tired. The older poor look exhausted. Every day you ride, no matter what time you ride, they look tired. And the younger poor look frustrated, angry, irritated, confused. October 1, 2014.
About me – Bus Stop Jesus
https://busstopjesus.wordpress.com/about-me
I was born with strong opinions. Eventually, I got paid for those opinions as part of weekly newspaper columns covering family life, parenting, and religion – depending on the publication. I spent about a decade writing columns and another one as a feature writer, food/nutrition reporter, education reporter, details of which you can find here. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. On funeral etiquette, ritual and grief – Bus Stop Jesus
https://busstopjesus.wordpress.com/2014/08/25/on-funeral-etiquette-ritual-and-grief
On funeral etiquette, ritual and grief. My new job requires me to travel quite a bit, so sadly, I’m doing less bus riding and more car driving of late. Now instead of noticing things on the bus, I’m noticing things on the road, including something I’ve never seen in 15 years living in this Tucson suburb – a funeral procession. It looked a lot like this:. That lesson was long time ago but it stuck, so I was surprised to see so many drivers acting as if nothing was happening as the procession passed by.
Advent Girl – Bus Stop Jesus
https://busstopjesus.wordpress.com/2013/12/01/advent-girl
The entire country, it seems, spent the past few days running roughshod over Thanksgiving in a mad dash toward shopping and decorating for Christmas. Life was focused on all things consumer. Or at least that’s how it seemed to me and a handful of “What about Thanksgiving? You see, most of the year I’m an insane goer-doer type, and Advent gives me a reason – a command – to slow down. It calls me to be led to the “ place where God is. One fourth of the Liturgy of the Hours. 8220;Insignificant man, escape f...
Running to Mass in the rain – Bus Stop Jesus
https://busstopjesus.wordpress.com/2015/01/12/running-to-mass-in-the-rain
Running to Mass in the rain. Last month, near mid-December in the middle of my work day, I ran to daily Mass. It wasn’t for exercise, and it wasn’t because I was a few minutes late – although I was, as I frequently am. And it wasn’t because the desert sky was pouring rain and I had no umbrella, although it was and I did not. You’re running to Mass! For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to church even when I’ve been frustrated, angry or upset with. But nearly a decade ago, the solace was ever-so-...

Thoughts about living the Christian life. Tuesday, February 16, 2010. How Sweet it is! 8220;For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” Romans 8:18. However, in my home we always save the dessert for after dinner. The sweet taste of the dessert comes at the end of mealtime—and we look forward to it anxiously! In Christ, Pastor George. Best is yet to come. Wait for the Lord. Friday, January 22, 2010. In Christ, Pastor George.

Day by Day...
Friday, March 2, 2012. Sunday, February 26, 2012. Is anyone out there actually still keeping this thing on their radar? I guess we'll find out! So, blah, blah, blah, I stink at blogging these days. Quick update: umm, life rolls. Matt finished his MBA program last spring. I am still so proud of him, his committment to himself and our family, and his achievement. I remind myself of this when we make the loan payment each month, but the changes are worth every penny. But for now, I'm going to go clean mysel...
Day By Day with RA
Day By Day with RA. Approximately one year ago I was noticing pain in my hands, wrist, shoulders, and toes. It hurt to hold my baby after 5 minutes, I was extremely tired all the time. But what Mom does not feel tired? I just tried to ignore it. Eventually the pain got the better of me, it became distracting and my exhaustion was limiting everything I did. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Here I will write about my day by day life with it. It is my venting place so be prepared! They gain up on ...
