Day Seven: San Angelo, TX. To White City, NM. The Real Deal, Wildlife Hazards, Blazing Heat, Running on Fumes, and Amongst the Hoards under a Bat-filled Sky. Sunday, July 23, 2006. Once again we rose in the dark. I remember some distinct confusion trying to read the GPS but after turning around in the middle of the highway we found the road out of town. Down Monument Road to the Turtle Hole, Old Well at Belnap, Death comes close at Fort Phantom Hill and We join Albert Haneman for a portrait at Fort Chadborne. Thursday, July 06, 2006. We rose and mounted up in the dark. I was fairly certain that there was a marker for the Jacksboro Station so we went looking for it. Don’t think we would have found it but we met a policeman coming out of his house. And he was familiar with the plaque. Sign of Murphy’s Station.

Required considerable leg work on location and a good bit of luck. One could easily spend half a day visiting with locals looking for the right person to guide you to a remote ruin. As I mentioned the stations themselves are well described for Oklahoma. It was written by Muriel H. Wright around 1930. There w...

Day One: Tipton to Springfield. Actually, Springfield, MO to Tipton,MO and then back to Springfield. Getting Saddle Tested and Tired". Friday, June 02, 2006. While we were drinking our coffee, I took a moment to rest on. My bike and feel the pack placement. Paul snapped this odd picture that is quite eerie and reminded us both of the dead outlaws they stood up after the bank robberies and photographed. Fortunately, it did not portend a disastrous foreshadowing. We arrived in Tipton. By noon and had littl...
