Discovered and named by Lewis and Clark in 1805 Beacon Rock was first called Beaten Rock, and it was found out that the rock marked the eastern boundary of the tidal influence of the Columbia River.The rock then was known as Castle Rock, and it wasn't until 1916 the named was changed to what we call it today Beacon Rock.
