Kinetics and Thermodynamics: July 2013
http://ianken.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
From mountaineer to islander. I am an islander again. I live in a tiny island in an artificial archipelago called Ijburg. In the southeastern part of Amsterdam. The islands which are actually reclaimed lands over the Ij. Lake represent the best in Dutch engineering. There is a saying here that says, "God created the world, but the Dutch created the Netherlands.". Google map image showing the location of Ijburg to the rest of Amsterdam. The house where I live is at the east Haveneiland. A wide, spacious, ...

Kinetics and Thermodynamics: October 2014

Countdown to PhD begins. The countdown must begin now. I must do this to encourage myself that I can actually finish what I have started more than four years ago. Three to four months from now, I will have a PhD degree. All that I have to do is finish these final hindrances - the chapters of my thesis book. Then, defend the work in front of five oppositors. Evolution of a manuscript. There will be many more revisions. This is just the start of it. Indeed, earning a PhD is just the start of a journey....

Kinetics and Thermodynamics: August 2013

An Old Spa Town. Panorama of Wiesbaden taken from Neroberg. Clearly visible is the Marktkirche (Market Church). A metalwork depicting the Atlstadt Wiesbaden. Where in the world is Wiesbaden? Why is this city of 280,00 inhabitants the capital of Hesse? The Kurhaus represents Wiesbaden's glory days as an elegant Spa Town and a luxurious Casino City. The scenic Kurpark (with the Kurhaus in the background) is a sight not to be missed while in Wiesbaden. My place of worship in Wiesbaden - Bonifatiuskirche.
