It has been snowing, wind driven, bone chilling, whitening the grass, but not yet the streets. It will be down in the 20s for the next 5-6 nights. We left work early and drove to Grand Forks to go to a UND ice hockey game. Where did all the leaves go? Especially when a snow flurry blows in on a brisk north wind. At this point we are staying off the interstates and rolling along on state roads which mainly go dead straight for miles and miles turn a pair of corners where a section line ended and then go on more and farther. The occasional speed zone slows us, but we don’t see a traffic light for 40-50 miles at a time. How long are the blades?

In the fall here in Las Cruces and around, the summer’s crop of New Mexico chili peppers are being picked by the truck load. There is a pepper festival in Hatch, NM just north of here, but it was before I got to Las Cruces. The air was filled with the most delectable smell as the peppers were roasted until the outsides were scorched and blistered.
