Every job on an SQL Server should have an email that is sent on failure. To ensure that the DBA gets those emails a check email is sent from each server being watched each day. As SQL Server can send email via a job or via T-SQL two check emails should come from each server. Then we know every thing is working and e-mails that tell us a job has failed will get through.
