The Most Important Visit We've Ever Made. On a typical, business-as-usual day in early July 2013, I walked into the  Bloc Opératoire . To help with the dressing changes of our burn patients.  As I pushed through the swinging doors which divide the Surgical Ward from the Operating Theaters,  I met a three year-old that would greatly influence the color and texture of my entire experience at Galmi Hospital. F was sent for treatment at our hospital from a centre about an hour and a half northeast of us.

Avec Deux Mains: Confessions of an Educated Woman

http://dberruti.blogspot.com/2014/07/confessions-of-educated-woman.html

Confessions of an Educated Woman. He says he has 17 children- no, wait, 18.' B. translated, and counted, as my new patient attempted to list off the names of his offspring. Trying to do cognitive retraining with a 40-ish year old man who suffered from a traumatic brain injury (TBI) two weeks ago can be challenging . . . attempting to do it in Hausa without wasting anyone's time takes a lot of creativity. I repeated in shock. After expressing my shock, I told him that I have one brother- that's it. When I...

Avec Deux Mains: Get Involved

http://dberruti.blogspot.com/p/get-involved.html

Looking for creative ways. In the work here in Niger? Apart from leaving some comments on the blog, there's five categories of action you can take to have a hand in what's happening at Galmi. No, this isn't a cop-out option. The way I see it, my team and I couldn't make it here without prayer support from 'back home' (which, for our community, is literally around the globe). Please be praying for us! Know someone who might be interested in the work here at Galmi Hospital? The work here, visit. Ride For W...

Avec Deux Mains: Lessons from the Widow and her Mite

http://dberruti.blogspot.com/2014/11/lessons-from-widow-and-her-mite.html

Lessons from the Widow and her Mite. My favorite thing to do in Niger on a Sunday is drive an hour up the road, weaving around broken-down-trucks and boys-driving-the-harvest-home-on-donkey-carts, to attend a tiny village church. Humble, in every sense of the word, this small community of brothers and sisters faithfully meets to give thanks for the little they have; together they learn how the Living Word of God should change their daily lives. And the cold weather that is arriving? When we had finished ...

Avec Deux Mains: Lessons on Palm Sunday

http://dberruti.blogspot.com/2015/04/lessons-on-palm-sunday.html

Lessons on Palm Sunday. I started treating M. on 12 December 2013. At the estimated age of 40, she had been sent to us after having a severe stroke which left her unable to move her right side, walk or speak. We worked together regularly for five months, and each time she had a check up with her doctor, she and her husband and her sister would pop by the gym to greet us. In December, M.’s husband showed up at the gym, distraught. Upon greeting him, we learned that she was upstairs in the su...We went up,...

Serving at Galmi Hospital. A fine WordPress.com site. That Time I Ran Church. November 13, 2014. November 14, 2014. A few weeks ago, I ran the missionary church service we do on the compound Sunday evening. I wore a nice outfit and washed (and dried) my hair directly before the service (! And for the full effect, imagine me reading this and pausing every half-sentence to have it translated into French. I apologized to my translator for some of my overly precise word choices.😛. Who else is not that?

Wanpela Dokta: November 2010

http://wanpeladokta.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Adventures in a PNG missionary hospital. Friday, November 19, 2010. My last day in Australia was spent in Kuranda, which is an artsy town located in the rainforest. To get there, I took the Kuranda Scenic Railway, which I thoroughly enjoyed. We passed waterfalls and scenic views on a. Beautiful old train. I walked around the town and ate some lunch. Then took the Skyrail, essentially an enclosed ski lift, over the canopy of the rainforest. Wednesday, November 17, 2010. A chunk of bad luck, I anticipated ...

Wanpela Dokta: Swimming with Nemo

http://wanpeladokta.blogspot.com/2010/11/swimming-with-nemo.html

Adventures in a PNG missionary hospital. Wednesday, November 17, 2010. Cairns is a nice place, great parks, friendly, accessible, but there is one main reason why it is a popular place for tourists from Australia and around the world. The Great Barrier Reef. (The rainforest would rank 2nd). So today I swam with Nemo. For a double whammy of some poor planning on my part and. Not a great picture on the left, but they fed the fish at the end, so you can make out just a taste of what I swam with. If anyone i...

http://wanpeladokta.blogspot.com/2010/11/koala-bears.html

Adventures in a PNG missionary hospital. Tuesday, November 16, 2010. When I think of Australia, I think koala bear. And today I got to hold one of those cuddle. Creatures. They are stinkin' cute! Today was my unsch. It was a fun place to go, because even though I went on this outback trip yesterday, and saw some of these animals, it's not like they pose for pictures. Most of the animals were quite accessible in there too. They had TONS of interesting. November 19, 2010 at 5:33 AM. Blogs and Sites I follow.
