This Yugoslavian M48 Mauser was my first military surplus rifle. It was purchased by my wife in December 2001 as a Christmas gift for me. What a great surprise it was! Little did she know at time but she was introducing me to my latest hobby. Yugoslavia produced quite a few of these rifles that now have been brought to the surplus market in excellent condition. Russian M91/30

Russian M91/30 Mosin Nagant. This Russian 91/30 is dated 1942. The rough round receiver is typical of the crude milling practices during WWII. It is in very good condition after being refurbished sometime after the war although the barrel is rather pitted. The pitted barrel may explain why this is my least accurate Mosin Nagant. At 100 yards, shooting 1980's dated ammunition. The best group I can get is 4 inches. 287 inches, 4 groove, right-hand twist. 5 round integral box. 2821 feet per second.

Turk M38 Mauser

I purchased this Turkish M38 Mauser for $50 plus shipping. The receiver is dated 1941 but I suspect it has been refurbished at least once since then because of its excellent condition. The Bluing is 95% and the bore is bright and shiny. I stripped and lightly sanded the stock then applied four coats of tung oil to restore the finish. While not as accurate as some of my rifles, for a 62 year-old rifle shooting 60 year- old ammunition, it shoots good. I can generally get 3-4 inch groups at 100 yards.

Like my other SKS, the Chinese Type 56 SKS, the M59/66 SKS is fun and cheap to shoot. Note the folding bayonet under the barrel. This is an A1 model that includes fold-up tritium night sights. Fitting on the barrel. Other differences include a gas cutoff valve on gas block, a folding front sight ladder, and night sights. 4 grooves, RH twist. Front - post; Rear - tangent notch.
