Day 62 – A River Runs Through It | Gonna Ride My Bike
http://www.gonnaridemybike.com/2011/07/day-62-a-river-runs-through-it
8230;until I get home! Jul 7, 2011. Day 62 – A River Runs Through It. What can i say? Today was beautiful. 90 miles downhill along the gorgeous Lochsa River valley. Warm sun, no wind. Idyllic. There’s just enough time to pull over off the road to avoid being blown off the road as it passes. One of the pack-bridges along the way. Nope - this wasnt part of the route. Bridges are ace. Fact. Would love to kayak down here sometime. Correcting the cycle-photos to food-photos ratio). Matt leads the way. Took a ...
Retrospection | Gonna Ride My Bike

8230;until I get home! Jul 29, 2011. It is pretty much impossible to sum up the 69 days we spent cycling across America. There is no way to suitably convey the range of feelings and thoughts I have about our trip now that its over. But here’s a few random pieces of my mind. I was quite worried before starting this ride that I would end up not enjoying it, that my sabbatical would have been wasted and I’d regret the whole thing. I’m greatly relieved and a little bit proud to say that I. The worst that can...

8230;until I get home! Jul 2, 2011. Day 57 – The Path To Wisdom. One of the best things about staying in a home overnight is getting a proper breakfast in the morning. I actually quite like my standard of a couple of cold pop-tarts and a granola bar but you can’t beat a big bowl of cereal, coffee and some toast for a good start to the morning. We thanked George (Mary Jo was still in bed – lucky thing! And set off again. This is not how to rehydrate! I just had to have some fried grease with my salad.
Day 66 – Living by principles | Gonna Ride My Bike

8230;until I get home! Jul 11, 2011. Day 66 – Living by principles. Its not all plain sailing. This morning was bleugh! But check out Mt Hood in the distance! Fortunately it often doesn’t take much to improve the situation. We stopped at a gas station and thanks to a bathroom break, some Chex Mix (love that stuff! Some good banter with Matt and Pat, and the sun coming out, when we rode off I was ‘back in the game’ and the rest of the days ride passed much more easily. 4000 miles in and our first tunnel.
The Stats | Gonna Ride My Bike

8230;until I get home! Jul 27, 2011. The pot-hole count value sadly wrapped around after the 9999th pot-hole, so here is the odometer reading instead. Here’s some facts and figures from the trip. I didn’t bother to note down random things along the way such as the number of roadkill deer we passed (lots) or the number of McDonalds we went to (even more), but the following should provide a useful overview:. Total number of days: 69. Number of rest-days: 7. Total miles cycled: 4205. July 27, 2011 at 9:39 am.
Day 68 – Close, but no cigar | Gonna Ride My Bike
http://www.gonnaridemybike.com/2011/07/day-68-close-but-no-cigar
8230;until I get home! Jul 13, 2011. Day 68 – Close, but no cigar. 60 miles is now considered an easy, short day so we had a relaxed breakfast, chatted with Dennis some more about our plans for the rest of our time in the States, and then set off into the Portland drizzle. The terrain now is fairly easy. None of the climbs are long, the gradients are still reasonable, and the road surfaces in Oregon are much better than, say, Colorado and Wyoming. Crossing St Johns Bridge in Portland. Tomorrow it all ends.
Day 59 – Spontaneous Popsicles and the UM Flat | Gonna Ride My Bike

8230;until I get home! Jul 4, 2011. Day 59 – Spontaneous Popsicles and the UM Flat. I don’t know how wholesome your breakfast was this morning but I guarantee it doesn’t come close to mine! Photos were taken, addresses exchanged, farewells said and re-said and then it was time to leave. Once again I felt like I could have happily spent the rest of the summer right there. But we must press on. It was mid-morning by this time and already hot. 8220;Spontenaity – that’s what it’s all about! The ride into Mis...

8230;until I get home! Jun 27, 2011. Day 52 – Big water. Its amusing to see the differences between our groups blogging styles. Parry, who just uses Facebook, definitely wins the prize for emotional and spiritual content. But I console myself with the knowledge that my spelling is way better than his. Sadly though, it appears my own family prefer Matt’s blog to mine! Weve reached 3000 miles! And an amazing waffle that honestly tasted healthy! Hooray for friendly Americans. Jun 26, 2011. After reaching th...
Day 69 – It’s the end of the world as we know it | Gonna Ride My Bike
http://www.gonnaridemybike.com/2011/07/day-69
8230;until I get home! Jul 14, 2011. Day 69 – It’s the end of the world as we know it. We’re leaving together,. But still it’s farewell. And maybe we’ll come back,. To earth, who can tell? I guess there is no one to blame. We’re leaving ground. Will things ever be the same again? It’s the final countdown…. Would we be ecstatic or melancholy? Only time would tell, so for the last time we wolfed down our breakfast pop-tarts and hopped on our bikes. We were riding to the coast! So we breathed in, pedaled ha...
