"A good photograph is knowing where to stand." — Ansel Adams
Where I Stand: "The less talk, the better," Arizona, March 2010
http://dcproducts.blogspot.com/2011/02/less-talk-better-sedona-march-2010.html
A good photograph is knowing where to stand." — Ansel Adams. Sunday, February 20, 2011. The less talk, the better, Arizona, March 2010. The less talk, the better. Originally uploaded by DC Products. There is a deeper thing to express — the return of humanity to some sort of balanced awareness of the natural things — some rocks and sky. We need a little earth to stand on and feel run through our fingers. Perhaps Photography can do this — I am going to try anyhow. Today is Ansel Adams' birthday. I hesitate...
Where I Stand: January 2011
http://dcproducts.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
A good photograph is knowing where to stand." — Ansel Adams. Friday, January 28, 2011. Offseason in Truro, Cape Cod, January 2011. Originally uploaded by DC Products. As a vacation destination, Cape Cod gets its share of visitors from Memorial Day through Labor Day. But it's a different scene in the middle of winter. Cottages are boarded up, stores are closed for the season, roads are empty and the restaurants that are open are more than happy to see you. Sometimes you just have to get away. I set up my ...

A good photograph is knowing where to stand." — Ansel Adams. Monday, June 21, 2010. Disappearing Endeavor, March 2008. I've posted this photo before, but considering that I've let this blog slide a bit of late (a little over a month, sadly), I thought it was worth reposting the image now that it was selected for a New York Times. Gallery of reader-submitted photos. Either, but considering the timing, I'm happy to include it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Make your own badge here. Gabe and Joohee's Farewell.

Exit 109: May 2012
http://exit109.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 08, 2012. One of the things I love about Josh Ritter is that you can tell he's having fun - you can hear. The smile in his live songs, like the one above. It comes through on "Empty Hearts," too. Particularly the "Don't let me into this year with an empty heart, an empty heart" refrain. There's nothing wrong with either approach, and it's not to say that the reverse isn't true of either one. But to me it seems like Bruce works first, plays second. Josh does it the other way around.
Exit 109: Maine afternoons
http://exit109.blogspot.com/2011/08/maine-afternoons.html
Saturday, August 06, 2011. While my mom cut my hair. I couldn't have been more than 10. But somewhere along his route that afternoon, my uncle John had knocked the key from the ignition. The tractor continued purring along, but when John went to turn it off back by his driveway, his hands came up empty, so he stalled it and decided he'd figure out the key problem later. Exit 109: A perfect Maine day
http://exit109.blogspot.com/2011/08/perfect-maine-day.html
Friday, August 05, 2011. A perfect Maine day. Amazingly, even after beginning with a chocolate croissant breakfast, this day continued to get better. From the Village Bakery and Cafe. And perhaps the best part of it all? While this was all being prepared, we put on some of my uncle's records for background atmosphere, beginning with Darkness on the Edge of Town. It's rare enough that we listen to albums/CDs/mp3s in order as it is, but to hear Darkness. Crosby, Stills and Nash. Lou Gehrig in Asbury Park.

Saturday, January 29, 2011. Recklessly dashing through the snow. Today's technology changes everything. Now a snow day is not just a day off from school, a chance to bundle up, find a hill and let gravity entertain you. Bring along a camera and it's an event, one to watch back at the house - and in years to come. On another run, when I couldn't keep the sled from drifting to the left where the forest dropped off into a shallow gorge (but with a drop steep enough and the trees close enough that you wouldn...

Thursday, June 28, 2012. Josh Ritter at The Stone Pony, June 27, 2012. Yeah, the photo's not ideal, but I decided I didn't want to be That Guy standing there with his phone in the air above all the heads, constantly trying to shoot the concert. If I'd wanted good photos, I'd have brought an actual camera and scouted out a good place to stand that wouldn't inconvenience too many people behind me. I guess I'm just one of the few considerate concert-goers. Joy To You Baby. A new song; solo). Girl In The War.
Exit 109: In the land of rocks
http://exit109.blogspot.com/2011/08/in-land-of-rocks.html
Thursday, August 04, 2011. In the land of rocks. High season on the breakwater. These series of posts from Maine are simple, end-of-day spontaneous recollections. By "jotting" down these outlines, I hope to come back to revisit them for more detailed accounts, at least for some particular points of the trip. I figured if I manage to do this much each night, I'll be more apt to follow up in a few days. Following the walk along the breakwater, the natural next step was to visit Owl's Head Light. A rather f...
