The Black Bow: I'm this close to buying the tickets...
http://boghadubh.blogspot.com/2011/04/im-this-close-to-buying-tickets.html
Thursday, April 28, 2011. I'm this close to buying the tickets. Fiddle Club is taking a week-long trip to Cape Breton this summer. I'm somewhat excited, though I have no idea what to expect. I'm even thinking of not bringing instruments, to be there just to listen and learn. I'll probably book the flight this weekend, after I get my passport renewal process underway. The Black Bow: Cape Breton here I come!
http://boghadubh.blogspot.com/2011/05/cape-breton-here-i-come.html
Thursday, May 26, 2011. Cape Breton here I come! Tickets bought, passport en route, B&B's being investigated. I'm looking forward to this trip! My recent increase in interest in dance has made look at Highland Dance tunes and sets on pipes last night for the first time in ages. I really ought to focus on building a repertoire for that for a while. I've also spent some time on flute, trying to improve my embouchure, with a little help from my friend Rosemary Gano. The Black Bow: A musing on starting - and sticking to - routines
http://boghadubh.blogspot.com/2013/10/a-musing-on-starting-and-sticking-to.html
Thursday, October 24, 2013. A musing on starting - and sticking to - routines. Well, the first hiccups have come around, and I've dropped the ball on the new regiment. This is one of those things that has been a recurring theme in my music career for the last several years. Things have come up, on weekends and on weekdays in my personal life, that have made it hard to stick to the regimen. I find that I'm most likely to do my full practice under several conditions:. 3) I practice in one solid block.

The Black Bow: Staying the Course, and Reenacting News
http://boghadubh.blogspot.com/2013/10/staying-course.html
Thursday, October 17, 2013. Staying the Course, and Reenacting News. So it's been about two weeks since I got back into the full swing of things, and I've been pretty good about it. Not quite 100% compliance, but close! Tonight I return to CAPD for not only early practice (which I've intermittently made for the last two years), but for the warm-up portion of late practice for the first time since I took a leave of absence from the band. So, fun stuff. Posted by Peter @ 9:41 AM. Comments: Post a Comment.

The Black Bow: 06/01/2004 - 07/01/2004

Wednesday, June 30, 2004. Ever since I found out that the great Bonnie Rideout calls herself "The Piping Fiddler", I've been increasingly uncomfortable with my own use of that moniker, and have been thinking about a new one for myself, one that would be unique. My purchase this weekend gave me the clue. "The Black Bow" sounded delightful, and mysterious. It sounds as ancient as the carbon-fiber bow that inspired it is modern. And it sounds great in Gaelic: bogha dubh. Posted by Peter @ 9:42 AM 0 comments.

Monday, September 29, 2003. The Old Sword and the New Bodhran. Finally, my first pibroch! My other competition pieces are going well, I've almost got the 6/8s up to tempo while maintaining the proper timing. The 2/4s sound great, hopefully all of my Grade IV tunes in the next weekend or two. On the fiddle, I've been looking at jigs and hornpipes, in all their variety. The 3/2 hornpipe is interesting, a sort of a "slip Scots measure". With the mandolin, I've begun to look at jigs. Posted by Peter @ 8:14 AM.

The Black Bow: Catching up
http://boghadubh.blogspot.com/2011/03/catching-up.html
Monday, March 28, 2011. It's been a year since my last post, and honestly, it's been a lot of business as usual in that time. Gigs, tunes, practice, that sort of thing. The one new thing to report is that I've been intermittently taking Scottish Country Dance lessons since the fall 2010, and have picked up a great instructional DVD of Scottish Step Dance, and have so far learned (sort of) one whole step! Wednesday, February 25, 2004. Odds and Ends (1). I'm going to have a while mess of Irish tunes to take to Houston with me for the session at St. Patrick's day. Problem is, they're all polkas, and no one plays polkas anymore (except people from the regions where the tunes were written). So I might be playing my polka set all by myself. Friday, August 22, 2003. Marching up and down the Square? I still haven't recorded my fiddle tracks, hopefully this weekend will be the charm. I'll probably add a hornpipe (Crossing the Minch) and a march/jig set that starts with Wee Michael's March and goes from there. Posted by Peter @ 12:07 PM. Friday, August 15, 2003. Monday, July 26, 2004. Well, with only the fiddle contest to concern myself with on Saturday, I managed to come in a good solid 4th out of 5. I don't feel that's all that bad - the competitors were truly fantastic. Andy Dodds and Melinda Crawford were 1st and 2nd (no surprise! Posted by Peter @ 7:15 AM 0 comments. Friday, July 23, 2004. I'll wear my period costume tomorrow, and my Walker kilt w/ fiddle club t-shirt on Sunday (addendum: I wore the period costume all weekend). Wednesday, July 21, 2004.
