Deafinitely Girly: Deaf Girly's head of noise
http://www.deafinitelygirly.com/2015/07/deaf-girlys-head-of-noise.html
Friday, 24 July 2015. Deaf Girly's head of noise. This time last week I was in the Alps. I was about to start a long morning walk. A walk that took me and FJM past a lake, up a hill, along the side of a river and to a refuge where we sat under a sun umbrella and watched the rain pelt down around us while munching on the most delicious cheese baguettes. Back near our ski flat, there was a kitten. I haven't heard a cat meow since I was about 8 years old, and even then, it was the quietest thing I'd eve...

Wednesday, 4 June 2014. Deaf Girly and the Freedom Pass. Last night I stayed at Fab Friend's house after dinner and a catch up. She lives in Zone 3 and her local station is on a train line into London. So this morning I joined the swathes of commuters coming into London at her station and tapped my Freedom Pass on the Oyster Reader. Seek assistance' it told me as 20,000 commuters slammed into the back of me as a result of the ticket gate not opening. I thought, backed up and tried again. I thought and st...

Friday, 26 June 2015. Deaf Girly and Royal Opera House Access Card. Yesterday, FJM and I went for a walk along the river. The sun was shining, the birds could well have been singing. It was wonderful. We sat outside a pub with a view of people rowing past at low tide. We felt smug that we had a table in the sun. It was all marvellous. And so when FJM returned from the bar, he rang the lovely guy who found my wallet. He texted his address to me and yesterday evening – armed with a bottle of thank yo...

Hearing Times Blog: Day 9 Report
http://hearingtimes.blogspot.com/2009/09/day-9-report.html
Monday, 14 September 2009. Provided by UK Deaf Sport. Rajeev Bagga's quest for gold faltered at the final hurdle when he was narrowly beaten (16-21, 21-17, 20-22) by Artemy Karpov of Russia. The result is Bagga's first defeat to any Deaf competitor in 20 years of competition and his silver medal follows Singles gold at the previous five Deaflympics. Bagga was a point away from glory at 20-19. But the Russian was returning Rajeev's smashes strongly and made it 20-all, before edging ahead to 21. Karpov sta...

Hearing Times Blog: Day 1 report
http://hearingtimes.blogspot.com/2009/09/day-1-report.html
Tuesday, 8 September 2009. Provided by UK Deaf Sport. Andrew Yick made history by becoming Great Britain's first-ever Deaflympic competitor in a martial arts event but could only finish fourth in the Tae-kwon-do (58kg) event. Cheered on by a pack of colourful British supporters, Yick fought his way through a tight first bout. A muscle tear did not help Yick's chances of progress however and he was later outclassed by Muhammed Guler (Turkey), who went on to win gold. GB pushed their opponents all the way ...

Chronicles of a Bionic Woman. Life Hearing Loss. And a Cochlear Implant. Charles R. Swindoll. January 5, 2014. By Charles R. Swindoll. 8220;Open shame belongs to us, O Lord, to our kings, our princes and our fathers, because we have sinned against You. To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against Him; nor have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His teachings which He set before us through His servants the prophets.”. Chronicles of a Bionic Woman. Life Hearing Loss. And a Cochlear Implant. Bionic Woman and…Motherhood! May 13, 2015. It’s been more than a year since I last posted on this blog. So I am a bit rusty, or at least I feel very new to this now. In that time, a lot has changed. My hearing journey has reached a whole new level since I became a mother three months ago. Yep, I’m now responsible for the life of a little human forever…. Thankfully, though that has happened a couple of times, the hubby has been my ba...

Thursday, 8 March 2018. Deaf Girly and International Women's Day. Today is International Women's Day. And this year's theme is #PressforProgress. I've had the honour of interviewing some of these women. They've shared some amazing stories about how they've faced real discrimination because of their gender. They've shared success stories of when someone has stood up for them, believed in them and fought for their career progression. And for the last 15 years of my career, this has been the issue I've been...

It is my pleasure to recommend Mr. Sam Sandler as a host for an amazing assembly within your school! Sam, based on his assembly called DEAFinitely Magic at West Pottsgrove Elementary School, would rank as offering one of the very best assemblies enjoyed by our students, faculty and PTO! Sam has a program you want your children to see! Ruth Fisher, principal. Ryan Stanson-Marsh Principal, PVMS West.

I have yet to meet a teen that doesn't enjoy joking and goofing around with their friends. The only difference between deaf and hearing kids is they speak a different language. That's it! Our concept is - if you "want in" on the fun look up the sign language alphabet. You might even find you want to keep learning their language. Maybe take up an ASL course? Maybe strike up a conversation with each other? Or maybe start a petition for more closed captioning from networks? Fun awareness = improvement.

Thursday, 31 May 2012. Apologies for the lack of updates following our Globe performances last week. We haven't quite yet recovered. The response from audiences has been amazing as have the reviews such as this one from The Guardian. Since Globe shows last week the actors have been on tour to Ipswich and Wolverhampton. It was hard for them to adjust from performing in front of 1500 people to an audience of just 60 or 70 - not quite the same buzz as you might imagine! Monday, 21 May 2012. As we edge ever ...
