FATE OF 2 WORLDS. Saturday, December 18, 2010. If you have a conversation with me about the most talented actors/actresses working today, you'll quickly learn of my affinity for Julianne Moore. Her performance in Todd Haynes' Safe. The treatment center seems to produce the inverse of the desired effect- Carol only becomes sicker. Similar to Don DeLillo's White Noise. FATE OF 2 WORLDS. Monday, July 11, 2011. 83 X-Men: First Class. Winner of the June Roundup poll. After the disappointment of Thor. I became increasingly more cautious (and less optimistic) in my belief that X-Men: First Class. Would be any good. Much to my relief, I can say that this is by far the finest film Marvel has ever released. The best super hero movies are the ones that are grounded with some component of realism- The Dark Knight. Was successful only as a wacky parody of itself.) First Class.

FATE OF 2 WORLDS. Monday, September 19, 2011. 81 2001: A Space Odyssey. Writing a brief blog post on Stanley Kubrick's trailblazing epic 2001: A Space Odyssey. Is like standing at the entrence to a tortuous labyrinth (sans a bloodthirsty Jack Torrance on my tail) with little idea of which way to turn. The film's subject matter is so wide-ranging that to avoid addressing any one of the many questions it raises feels like an injustice to the film and its creator- 2001. I like to interpret 2001. In an alter...

FATE OF 2 WORLDS. Sunday, June 26, 2011. The Reality of the Virtual: 85. Avalon (2001)/84. eXistenZ (1999). Borrowing the title of this post from a Slavoj Žižek lecture, for the first time on Fate of 2 Worlds, I would like to contrast two films side by side. Mamoru Oshii's Avalon. And David Cronenberg's eXistenZ. In the illegal video game world of Avalon. Something of a cross between Counter-Strike. Is ambiguous. After reaching the hidden bonus level, the game appears to reboot, presenting Ash with a...
