Somewhere in the middle. Monday, August 12, 2013. Marvelous Middle Grade Monday: Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. I picked up Timmy Failure because I'm always looking for a like-Wimpy-Kid graphic novel with a great voice, and I thought this might be a good book for my 2nd grader. My 4th and 6th grader blasted through this in a day. Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. Published in Feb 2013. Other books in the series:. Now Look What You've Done (coming Feb 2014). Why I loved it:. My Brain on Books. Timmy ...

Somewhere in the middle. Wednesday, January 30, 2013. She's Crafty: The Five Senses. This week we went over possessive nouns (seriously, you would think 5th graders would know when to put in an apostrophe, but they struggle) and the five senses. You hear it all the time: Show, don't tell. What does that mean? It means you show details versus telling the reader what happened. The kids came home from school. My trick to show details: the five senses. I would ask them:. How did it smell? How did it feel?

Don't Forget the Samovar by Kristen Wixted. About writing for children, books for children, driving in Boston, and the dangers of cooking. Saturday, September 6, 2014. Don't Forget the Samovar by Kristen Wixted. About writing for children, books for children, driving in Boston, and the dangers of cooking. Friday, April 4, 2014. Different Kinds of Secrets. Keeping a secret can be hard, or easy. Depends on the secret. My secret was hard to keep: T. I didn't know Sam made it to the finale of Under the Gunn. Ut a certain family member told me back in January that Sam's mom, dad, and sister had taken a quick trip to LA right before Christmas. Why would they do that? FYI Osc...

Don't Forget the Samovar by Kristen Wixted. About writing for children, books for children, driving in Boston, and the dangers of cooking. Monday, July 15, 2013. Last weekend I was in a local production of The Secret Garden, which is a musical as well as one of my favorite children's books. As I've written before, I was in the ensemble, and in one scene I played the nurse. My daughters do a lot of theater, and I had always wanted to see what it was like on the stage, and well.I did it. She organizes all ...

Don't Forget the Samovar by Kristen Wixted. About writing for children, books for children, driving in Boston, and the dangers of cooking. Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Off to High School. Scoutie, my puppy, and I walked my oldest daughter, Rebecca, to the high school driveway this morning for her orientation. When we got close, Becky waved, I waved, Scoutie barked. Refused to move. "Becky left us? I am waiting for Becky," Scout said. I'm waiting," she said, butt firmly planted on the sidewalk. Becky's cla...
