IIT Kgp Freshers' Welcome Function - 1969. In the sixties and the seventies, IIT. Kha - Rag - Pur. Was notorious for ragging. However, during ragging the 'seniors' always used to be on the lookout for talented freshers. The cream of these talented freshers were given their first platform for public performance in IIT Kgp during the official welcome function for freshers at the Netaji Auditorium. 1) Click on the thumbnails below to enlarge them. IIT Kharagpur Photo Album 5 - The Campus Today. During Golden Jubilee year - 2001. During July 2001 I drove down to Kgp from Kolkata. Visiting the campus after over two decades was a truly nostalgic experience. The campus looked very neat and clean - all spruced up for the Golden Jubilee celebrations. Rags visits Mumbai, Kolkata & Kgp

http://debashis1.tripod.com/rags/rags.htm

V Raghavan (a.k.a. Rags; Aero / 1978 / LLR) visits Mumbai, Kolkata and Kgp during December 2003. Rags, one of the pioneers of the LLRweb, visited Mumbai, Kolkata and Kharagpur during his annual trip to India in December 2003. His primary objective was to meet old (and new) friends from LLR Hall and to reminisce about the unforgettable 5 years spent at IITkgp. Here are some photos taken (with his Olympus Camedia) during the visit. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge the photos. Rags, Mandy, Gharse and Venky.

Sunday, February 22, 2009. Rajasthan tour with Kundu Special, Kolkata. Kundu Special’ is a tour operator company based in Kolkata. Over long 75 years of its existence, it has achieved a sort of cult status amongst travel-crazy Bengalis. Check out. Http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kundu Special. To learn more about this organisation. So how come we suddenly decided to use the services of KS (Kundu Special)? Package cost the two of us Rs 21,225 (Rs 10,613 per head). One of the reasons why I am sharing my exper...

dmtravels: August 2006

http://dmtravels.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 28, 2006. Hundru, Jonha and Sita falls. Spent 19 and 20 August 2006 visiting a couple of waterfalls near Ranchi with a friend. There is a lot of water in the rivers at present (pretty heavy rains in Jharkhand) and the falls are really nice to watch and hear. Jonha Falls is also known as Gautam Dhara and there is a temple of Gautam Buddha there. One can also go to Jonha Falls by train - there is a small railway station called Gautam Dhara about a km from the falls. Links to this post.

dmtravels: The badly managed border (West Bengal / Jharkhand) checkpost at Chichira

http://dmtravels.blogspot.com/2010/03/badly-managed-border-west-bengal.html

Saturday, March 27, 2010. The badly managed border (West Bengal / Jharkhand) checkpost at Chichira. I have lost count of the number of times I have crossed the Chichira border checkpost on NH 6. This busy checkpost has to be crossed while travelling from Bahragora in Jharkhand to Lodhasuli (near Jhargram) in W.B. or vice versa. To conclude, my advice is :. 2) Try to cross the border early in the morning if possible. 3) Never queue up behind the last truck in your lane as if you are in a civilized land&#4...

dmtravels: My impressions of Malaysia

http://dmtravels.blogspot.com/2011/08/my-impressions-of-malaysia.html

Monday, August 29, 2011. My impressions of Malaysia. My wife and I have visited two places in Malaysia Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. In the last 14 months or so, we have visited KL 4 times and transited through LCCT airport (KL) a few more times. This is because of our new found love for Air Asia which has its main hub at KL. We have been using Air Asia extensively for our visits to several Asian countries. A Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur. Amusement Park at Genting. One should avoid changing currency at the ...

DM retires again: May 2007

http://dmretires.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 29, 2007. After 12 months of retirement. I shall complete one whole year of 'retired life' tomorrow. Many friends (especially contemporaries who are in their mid-50's) keep asking me how I'm enjoying my retired life and whether I'm happy with my decision. Remember the fox in Aesop's Fables? The Fox Who Had Lost His Tail. An early retiree like me holding forth on the virtues of early retirement could be compared with that fox by a cynic! What is the reason? Am I contradicting myself?

DM retires again: September 2010

http://dmretires.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 02, 2010. After 4 years of retirement. How time flies four years have gone by since my early retirement and I’m now 58 years old. Time for another reality check on my retired life. I’m writing this sitting on a ship off Bombay where I’m employed as Chief Engineer by the Shipping Corporation of India and I’m earning not insignificant wages. So am I not being hypocritical calling myself a retired guy? Posted by Debashis Mukherjee at 7:29 PM. Links to this post. My life is an open website.

DM retires again: Dreaming about Early Retirement

http://dmretires.blogspot.com/2006/01/dreaming-about-early-retirement.html

Wednesday, January 04, 2006. Dreaming about Early Retirement. Originally written on 03 Sep 05. I have been dreaming about ‘early retirement’ for quite sometime. But over the last one year this dream is becoming more and more like a resolve. Mainly, the following factors are influencing my thinking along these lines :. Ø Both our daughters are more or less on their own. Jaya and I know how to keep our material needs in sync with what we can afford. So what is holding me back? Firstly, the opportunity cost...

DM retires again: Thoughts on Independence Day

http://dmretires.blogspot.com/2006/08/thoughts-on-independence-day.html

Tuesday, August 15, 2006. Thoughts on Independence Day. It’s been exactly two and a half months since I took early retirement. One of the major intended goals of this action was ‘freedom’. I guess it’s appropriate to reflect on the score on India’s Independence Day. Let me do a comparative study to put this whole thing in perspective :. What is this life if, full of care,. We have no time to stand and stare. No time to stand beneath the boughs. And stare as long as sheep or cows. 2) I get a feeling somet...
