Authorial Intent in the Shounen Manga Form or Why Recent Chapters Don’t Mean Luuuurve for IchiOri. I was asked to write this essay by IchiRuki shippers, but these aren’t essays that trudge out the same old arguments for the pairing. I look at Japanese culture, the shounen form, character polls, and the literary devices of this and that in my best schoolmarm persona. I touch on the Tanabata myth and Kubo’s use of parallelisms. Unlike my love of reading and writing, which was killed by graduate school literature classes, my love of doodling never suffered. I have no clue as to what I’m doing, drawing-wise, and no pretensions. I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil, but I only started CG art in December 2004. When I got a graphics tablet for Chanukah, I went hog-wild with the fanart! Most were drawn directly on the computer because my scanner spent all of the year 2005 being broken. I’m a canon timeline fangurl–which means that I am very narrow-minded, and the day I start writing alternative universe fics may be the day I go back to writing original fiction. I myself like to read fanfic about characters I loved in the original shows, and even in gratuitous yaoi or yuri, I find myself working hard to make events plausible (as plausible as can be in the flying monkey world of Dbz or the hell butterfly transmutations of Bleach).
