Pageflakes | Debbie's blog
https://debbiephillips.wordpress.com/2008/09/19/pageflakes
On: September 19, 2008. I’ve been using this week to catch up a bit, as I missed week 6. Naturally, it seems that I missed the week with the most things to try! I tried setting up a homepage with pageflakes. I did look at Netvibes too, but there didn’t seem to be much difference and Pageflakes seems friendlier, somehow (completely illogical, but there you go). 1 Response to "Pageflakes". October 18, 2008 at 11:19 am. I read about a site on John Chow’s blog today called http:/ www.43marks.com. You are com...
Google Chrome | Debbie's blog
https://debbiephillips.wordpress.com/2008/09/22/google-chrome
On: September 22, 2008. In common with approximately half the internet*, I downloaded Google Chrome. When it was released. I then opened it, played with it once, and promptly forgot about it. But earlier this week, I had to be away from my usual PC, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to try something new. I’m always slightly suspicious of Google. Despite their claim that they’re not evil. With its many many add-ons, is more or less aimed at me, and I’m far too attached to it to let go. Yet. An error h...
Social networking | Debbie's blog
https://debbiephillips.wordpress.com/2008/09/12/social-networking
On: September 12, 2008. For this week’s activities, I signed up with twitter. I quite like twitter, although its usefulness does rely on you having people to tweet at….and something to say yourself! Once I’d started following Jenny, I looked for any other names I recognised – I take it it’s not something many other people opted to do? Though it did lead to me getting the (slightly disconcerting) message that ‘ DowningStreet. Given that I’ve used Facebook, the Ning interface looked oddly familiar...
Podcasts & multimedia | Debbie's blog
https://debbiephillips.wordpress.com/2008/09/05/podcasts-multimedia
On: September 5, 2008. I’ve got a bloglines account, so I’ve been using that to keep track of podcasts. It’s getting to be a bit of a pain downloading them though, so I thought trying a podcatcher might be a good thing to do. I downloaded iTunes. I ended up with Juice. To try and avoid making this the longest blog post in history, I’ve added a video to a separate post. Which is really easy! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Second Life | Debbie's blog
https://debbiephillips.wordpress.com/2008/09/29/second-life
On: September 29, 2008. I enjoyed the workshop on Second Life – it was really interesting to see how Imperial is using it as a learning tool. I can see how you can use it to give a more realistic experience of a hospital than a questionnaire would be – they’d both test the student’s understanding, but a more visual experience might help people remember better. I had fun creating my avatar – who knew virtual hair could be just as unruly as the real thing? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

I already had a del.icio.us account set up with some sites bookmarked from a while ago. It was useful to revist the technology and to see that the del.icio.us interface is different from when I last visited it. I know a lot of people use Flickr and think it’s great – I’m not sure about it yet. I have also investigated CiteULike. Web 20 week 3 – RSS feeds. Eg I have 6...

Newer posts →. July 24, 2008 · 3:38 pm. My first post :o). I had a touch of luck with this exercise for the Web 2.0 programme… when I set up an account recently for helping out with the Life Sciences blog it gave me the option to have one of my own – so I did, even though I couldn’t think at the time what I’d need one for! So now have had time left to play with the design of my blog and now I’m off to play with the widgets :o). Newer posts →. Dragon on the Wagon. Blog at WordPress.com.

Week 8 – Social networking sites. September 26, 2008 · 11:20 am. Week 10 – Gaming and Virtual Worlds. I can see far more use in the podcasts that I looked at as these can be easily linked to the library website and can also perform useful functions for those with certain disabilities. The technological requirements that SL requires, to my mind, could create the exclusion of some users from accessing library services and this goes against one of the most basic priciples of libraries. You will find a coffe...
