Debbie's Journey Continues

Sunday, December 3, 2017. Thursday, September 15, 2016. I am now in the midst of unpacking and finding places for things and deciding what must go - to other homes and other people. I am also experiencing, again, the difference between the vision and what it takes to get to the end of the vision. Meaning, I can/could see this wonderful cozy home and new life; and now I have to do the work to get to that vision. Sunday, August 7, 2016. And what a year it has been. I will be back. Tuesday, July 14, 2015.

Debbie's Journey Continues: July 2013

http://debbiesjourneycontinues.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 2, 2013. July 2, 2013. I miss Seattle/American culture. I miss people who speak English with MY accent. I miss grocery stores with familiar products. I got to go shopping today at a full blown grocery store here in Pretoria. It was amazing, and challenging. The last time I got to go and choose vegetables I was staying with a couple in Hollywood, California and the lady of the home took me with her to choose what I wanted her to cook with. At least for this moment. I think it may even be mor...

Debbie's Journey Continues: Life.

http://debbiesjourneycontinues.blogspot.com/2015/04/life.html

Monday, April 27, 2015. April 27, 2017. One week ago today I went to the college by bus and my stomach lurched strangely as I got off the bus at an awkward angle. I had not been feeling well since the Friday before but things were to get worse. As I went home by bus I had stories in my head that I wanted to share on this blog. I got home, made a lovely vegetarian soup, had some of that, refrigerated the rest of it, and a couple of hours later my stomach virus made its move. Then I bought a chapatis and e...

Debbie's Journey Continues: September 2013

http://debbiesjourneycontinues.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 4, 2013. September 3, 2013. I want to explain further why food is so expensive in South Sudan. It is an issue of food insecurity and a lack of infrastructure. People do not want to grow crops because chances are that someone will come along and steal the fruits of their labor. This includes the military and police forces because they still need to come to an understanding that their function is to protect people and not to benefit from people. Therefore crops that are. One of the pro...

Debbie's Journey Continues: Juba. April 2015.

http://debbiesjourneycontinues.blogspot.com/2015/04/juba-april-2015.html

Tuesday, April 14, 2015. This past Sunday, the Sunday after Easter, I went with three other Mission Co-Workers to a Presbyterian Church of South Sudan worship service. It turns out that the church was/is an IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camp. The church itself is a solid canvas tent with floor, sides and ceiling in one piece and it is double thick. There is no power, thus no fans, and so the flap doors must stay open for air. What was very noticeable were the flies. Today, Tuesday, God sent an angel...

Debbie's Journey Continues: May 2015

http://debbiesjourneycontinues.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 19, 2015. May 19, 2015. I decided not to take my chances with refrigerated items. Oh yes, I saw two women buying the last of the big bottles of water in one store. Several days ago when on my way to the bus stop I saw, as usual, the women who carry the trays of practical toiletries on their heads. Suddenly “give us this day our daily bread” from the Lord’s Prayer came to life for me. Every day they must sell enough to be able to eat their daily bread. Wednesday, May 6, 2015. May 6, 2015,.

Join me on this journey! Packing my bags and moving along following God's call on my life. Monday, October 6, 2014. What Am I Afraid Of? This is a loaded question. I am afraid of so many things I cannot even name. I suppose I'll start with the ones I can name. and see what comes to me? Maybe it's cliché, but it's true. The fear of the Lord. Is the beginning of knowledge,. But fools despise wisdom and instruction. Now all has been heard;. Here is the conclusion of the matter:. View my complete profile.

Join me on this journey! Packing my bags and moving along following God's call on my life. Saturday, April 26, 2014. When I started this list of blogging topics, it intrigued me because there were things on it that I probably wouldn't otherwise share. This is one of them. My favorite recipe isn't one that would surprise many people. It's for Hungarian Fruit Soup (Gyumolcs leves). It was the first Hungarian food I fell in love with and the one I keep recreating for friends and potlucks. 1 cup sour cream.

http://trazylyn.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Join me on this journey! Packing my bags and moving along following God's call on my life. Friday, December 5, 2014. So, this was a funny little exercise. In order to make me aware of my surroundings and to give you a little peek into my life, I explored my 5 senses. I hear: the TV and traffic outside. The TV is playing season 6 of The West Wing. It's something I've been indulging on during my 'staycation.' It's all episodes that I've seen before, but it's still just as good as the first time. I have a s...

join me on this journey!: Hunger Action Month - Day 7 - From the Scripture

Join me on this journey! Packing my bags and moving along following God's call on my life. Sunday, September 7, 2014. Hunger Action Month - Day 7 - From the Scripture. For me, my faith was the first thing to convict me to feed the hungry. I simply cannot call myself a Christian or claim to be a follower of Christ if I do not care for those who are hungry, thirsty, naked, homeless or oppressed. That is my interpretation of my faith, my calling. So, from where do I make these conclusions? And also gives th...

Join me on this journey! Packing my bags and moving along following God's call on my life. Sunday, February 23, 2014. Do you have any collections? Personally, I used to have a couple collections, but now there seems to be only one. Books. I have a problem with book collections. I collect books that I'll (probably) never read. I have two collections: 1 in NY, 1 in Michigan. It keeps growing. And I haven't really been reading. So what do you collect? Saturday, February 1, 2014. This is the memory for which...

Join me on this journey! Packing my bags and moving along following God's call on my life. Sunday, August 17, 2014. Why Do I Blog? I haven't really updated this thing with any regularity. I would apologize, although I feel as though I don't really need to do so. It's random and it's scattered. It's not that I've lost interest, I just haven't been using my spare time to do anything productive, like blogging. It comes down to Words With Friends or Blog? Or it comes down to Netflix or Blog? Why Do I Blog?

Yoga in the sun room of our charming little row house was a perfect start to our perfect day in Leiden, our last stop before going home. As we walked into the town center we noticed all the people enjoying the beautiful day on the canals. The Old Rhine and the New Rhine rivers meet in Leiden and after Amsterdam, Leiden has the most canals of any city in the Netherlands. A tour boat ride on the canals gave us a different view of the city. Operated by Rondvaart. One of the oldest botanical gardens in the w...

Inspirational Christian Poetry -Health and Joy from multiple adversities, pain and depression! About the author, Debbie- A ‘Nuther Story 1 (2014). August 5, 2015. As we look back over our lives we become aware that things are just things. They aren’t important in the scheme of things. We can’t take them with us. However, wonderful memories are attached to some of the “things”in our lives. Such is the case is that of Mom’s lighted tree. For as long as I can remember, the tree stood proudly while they dined.
