Avalanche Looms: ashes, ashes
http://avalanchelooms.blogspot.com/2014/12/ashes-ashes.html
Friday, December 19, 2014. It's icy here, so I dumped the whole can full of wood ashes on my paths and the driveway, and then put it to the test. I didn't fall down and break my crown. I like my new, highly visible, lime-yellow down jacket. Happy winter solstice, and remember the ones who've left us. I light a candle for them in a. Mason jar, when the sun goes down, and put it in the frozen fern bed beside the sauna. Avalanche Looms / Susan Johnson. Needles all dangling down…what a funny image! I wove it...

Avalanche Looms: march wind
http://avalanchelooms.blogspot.com/2015/03/march-wind.html
Saturday, March 7, 2015. Today winds are blowing out of the South. Soon maple sap will be dripping in the woods, syrup boiling in sugar houses, and trout season. It will still snow, a spring blizzard or two. The cold has been extraordinary this year, but it's a dry cold. I know I'll miss it. Item: In case you haven't seen it, Vibeke, the vivacious Norwegian knitter, tea and poetry lover who writes A Butterfly in My Hair. Avalanche Looms / Susan Johnson. Lovely spring green in the scarf! I opened your blo...

Archive for category: LifeStyle. The Pajama Game' Behind-the-scenes The Pajama Game. February 6, 2015. Happy February, guys! Ready for a PJ party? We recently styled one of our most fun shoots to date: a Valentine’s edition lingerie and PJ story for one of our favorite websites, Glossed and Found. We scoured the city (and beyond) for the very best in intimates and cozy wear for boys and girls and, we’ll be honest, we kind of want it all. January 31, 2015. The next year, we had naked models in a kiddie po...

Avalanche Looms: potholding
http://avalanchelooms.blogspot.com/2015/01/potholding.html
Thursday, January 8, 2015. I'm amazed to read about the present, sweltering heat in the southern hemisphere, Australia, for instance, while staring into the teeth of this "Alberta Clipper" coming down from, well, the finger points at Alberta. Thanks, Canada. Dramatic, but largely an illusion. So I am weaving potholders, a throwback to simpler times, days when I began weaving, a. Project of cutting rags and chaining them together, to weave into useful, and cheerful kitchen things. We can create what we ca...

Avalanche Looms: lost and found
http://avalanchelooms.blogspot.com/2015/05/lost-and-found.html
Monday, May 4, 2015. We conquer our pessimism and plant a dozen red raspberry canes, unearthing, in the process, one of Grandma's long forgotten and missing sterling souvenir spoons, deep in the compost heap. I wonder how long it was lost there with another spoon, and how it got there, not pointing fingers. Avalanche Looms / Susan Johnson. Hey Susan, did you see the cool mother duck (or goose) on the nest right across from the Amish farm on the way to Avalanche- - she is sitting so high up. May 10, 2015 ...

Avalanche Looms: simply weaving
http://avalanchelooms.blogspot.com/2015/02/simply-weaving.html
Friday, February 6, 2015. The flower petals in this are made of strong, Finnish paper yarn, I ordered from Tampere, Finland. The paper yarn is threaded on a blunt tapestry needle, and tied into the weave as it progresses. I also used Japanese paper chenille, mohair yarn, unraveled plastic tarps, and white linen in the knotting. I plan to enter this piece , Memory and Forgetting,. Avalanche Looms / Susan Johnson. Avalanche Looms: no fooling
http://avalanchelooms.blogspot.com/2015/04/no-april-fool.html
Wednesday, April 1, 2015. Now I'm on my bike, singing, all the way up to Bloomingdale! Soon enough I'll come back to my bare workshop, empty looms, and start in again. There was an old man named Michael Finnegan. He grew whiskers on his chin again. They fell out and then grew in again. Poor Old Michael Finnegan. Avalanche Looms / Susan Johnson. What layers of loveliness. Im wearing your scarf right now! This is what I call Beau Travail. Truly. April 1, 2015 at 11:20 AM. Beautiful textures and colors!

Avalanche Looms: another day
http://avalanchelooms.blogspot.com/2014/11/another-day.html
Wednesday, November 26, 2014. I take a snowy walk, looking for what I'm looking for, but Mikey comes along. As usual, he wants it to be all about him. The waste of a good warp section, a mistake I can't unmake, but I can't bear to throw away just yet. Tomorrow, especially, I wish you will enjoy a good meal and the sweet company of your friends and family. Avalanche Looms / Susan Johnson. Mikey looks like he has a few extra digits! November 26, 2014 at 8:23 PM. Hes got 7 on each front paw. Bigfoot.
