Also included in the project was the city’s new bandstand, built after years of fundraising and now the heart of the plaza, which replaced an earlier, glass-topped entry portal. Our original bus depot, located directly in front of downtown’s primary Marta rail station entrance. The former glass-topped pedestrian entry portal, at the approximate spot where the bandstand now sits.

The compromise worked out by DDA board member Jim Philips was to pull out the banking component planned for the first building into a small, stand-alone structure that filled the corner and was connected to the larger office building through a basement level. This creative solution achieved the goals of the developer and met the design standards established by the Town Center Plan.

Lenox Place was founded in 1905 as one of Atlanta’s first suburban subdivisions . It was situated along Howard (Lenox) Avenue, which at the time was a busy street car line that connected Decatur and downtown Atlanta. The earliest homes were built at the south end of the neighborhood, closest to Howard Avenue, and residents would use the street car for their daily commutes.
