Setting Up a Felting Studio. Creating a felt studio of your own is a snap. You will need:. A bar of Kiss My Face olive oil soap, any flavor. 1 roll of Plastomat, 24 ridged plastic shelf liner (available at my favorite place: Pastime Ace Hardware). Large polyester lingerie bag. Large leftover plastic yoghurt container (for pouring water). Metal pot for making soap gel. Lots of colored wool roving. Rolling pin and 1 3/4 inch 6 foot dowel (both are optional). This is the first skein of Fletcher's rescue roving I dyed, it was dyed with quebracho red, pomegranate, wattle, logwood purple (I think I browned that out by placing it by yellows and they bled together-WHAT was I thinking? I like how its greenish. I was expecting more yellow and it is yellow when you get in there to look at the fibers that were white, but when you step back and look at the whole it looks olive. Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Natural Dye Class Results. I took a natural dye class at Deep Color Studio. The finicky and fermenting ingredients, the magic of color change from yellow/green to deep blue and, of course, enter me-the bedraggled hag with rubber gloves. I know it will be a yellow/red and not a blue/red but I can live with that. Cochineal, I suppose its not much different than silk. I wish they could just find the already dead bugs and grind those!
