Deep in the Heart of Mauritania. The stars at night, are big and bright. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Slight change of plans. I can't say that the news didn't shake me up a little bit. It's been hard saying goodbye to everyone, and now it seems that I will get the great joy of doing that all over again in two months! Oh well. At least now I may get to go to Machu Picchu with my family in July which would be AWESEOME! June 11, 2009 at 1:00 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. The co...

Deep in the Heart of Mauritania. The stars at night, are big and bright. Tuesday, June 30, 2009. No more RIM, hello Togo! After this conversation, I called my new placement officer to find out what the odds were of me getting reassigned soon, and she said that she would probably know something in the next few days. She also asked if I was flexible about where in the world I was going and about my job description and I said yes. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Slight change of plans. Thursday, June 4, 2009. I'm ex...

I'm excited/nervous/scared/hopeful/(fill in whatever other adjective you think I may be feeling because I probably feel that too). Okay I think that's enough for now. Hopefully I will be able to post some more interesting information once I get there! June 4, 2009 at 4:14 PM. Wow, the name of this blog looks familiar. I wonder what genius came up with it. My Peace Corps Journey in Cameroun. I just got back from a two week vacation in Senegal. It was a badly needed vacation so that I could relax eat anything my heart desired. I met my friend from college, Clint, and we stayed at fancy hotel in the heart of Dakar. It was right on the coast, with an amazing breakfast buffet, and a gorgeous pool where you could sun tan and hear the waves crashing. I never thought I would be able to do any of that in Africa, but it was awesome! We ended the trip by simply rela...

My Peace Corps Journey in Cameroun. Cameroon to Tanzania to Thailand. These past few months have just seemed to fly by. So much happening and so quickly. In December I really started to tie up loose ends in Cameroon and bring my work at UNICEF to a close. It was a really bittersweet time. During my last week in Cameroon, which also happened to be the first week of 2013, I was lucky enough to have a good group of PCVs in the capital. It was a great way to start off the new year. I then met my friends, Ans...

My Peace Corps Journey in Cameroun. First few weeks in Yaounde. Recreation and relaxation options are much greater in the city. Peace Corps Volunteers are always in and out and ready to hang out. My fellow UNICEF workers are a very interesting and experienced group of people that I hope to get to know more. My officemate is a French volunteer working on a malaria initiative. There is also an expatriate community here that organizes activities like: ultimate Frisbee and yoga! Pennsylvania for the Holidays.

My Peace Corps Journey in Cameroun. Celebrating 50 years of Peace Corps in Cameroon. For the past two months I was completely consumed with helping to plan and coordinate the 50 year anniversary event that Peace Corps held. Our new Country Director, Jackie Sesonga, had seen similar events across West Africa and decided that this would be a great opportunity for PC Cameroon to raise our visibility in country. My Peace Corps Journey in Cameroun. After the 50th anniversary event I needed to take some vacation days to unwind. Luckily Thanksgiving fell perfectly into this time. So on Black Friday I headed to Bertoua where I would eat my 3rd Thanksgiving meal over two days. Pretty awesome. I made our family spinach dip in a bread boat and we killed our own turkey. After Bertoua, I headed to Kentzou where Jakob and Geoff live. Kentzou is a town all the way on the eastern border of Cameroon. Eddie worked really hard...

My Peace Corps Journey in Cameroun. Summer Camps and 4ht of July. On the actual 4th I went to Dschang and spent an afternoon at the pool with some other volunteers. We made pizza for dinner with potato salad and mango cobbler. What more can you ask for? Also I cut my hair! I now have bangs and about 8 fewer inches. It is much easier to wash now. My Peace Corps Journey in Cameroun. Dust is everywhere. Every time the wind picks up, there is more dust, when a moto drives by, when a car or truck rumbles down the road; more dust. Ok that is enough complaining about the dust; I just look forward to when the trees are green again, the sky is blue again, and the air is fresh. Dust is everywhere. Every time the wind picks up, there is more dust, when a moto drives by, when a car or truck rumbles down the road; more dust. I have been working on a painting...

My Peace Corps Journey in Cameroun. Biking through the Jungle. A while ago, some fellow PCVs were thinking a loud about taking a bike trip from Ambam in the South region to the beach in Campo through the Campo-Ma’an National Park. It sounded like an amazing, yet lofty, idea. Somehow, though, we just realized this project. Then we took a car to our starting village of Nyambissang. That afternoon we biked to a nearby village and then hiked to some waterfalls with a guide. It seemed like a miracle. We r...

deep in the heart of houston

Deep in the heart of houston. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. The Spirit of the living God. Always God does things for a purpose. Always God never wastes anything. Always God has our best interest at heart. Always God has His glory in mind. Always.God does things backwards. How does that play out? Yes, yes, yes. Nothing that comes to us in life surprises God; He has actually given permission for it. How do we then make sense of the junky stuff that happens? There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, n...

Sam Waldrop is the loudest person at our school. Quite possibly, he is the loudest person to ever live. Deep in the Heart of Politics. Friday, February 11, 2011. New Senate Bill 407 from Kirk Watson. Texting is a big part of life these days. The only ones who don’t text are those who can’t afford a cell phone or are too ignorant to learn new technology. Texting is an innovative and quick way to communicate however, with the good is the bad. It also seems to be an easier way to get yourself in trouble. Not everyone does it but according the Austin Chronicle. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Deep in the heart of Texas...

Deep in the heart of Texas. Sunday, August 21, 2011. Tonight I decided to cook something new. I found a recipe online for Spicy Pesto Chicken and Pasta. That looked promising. I was a little nervous because it called for basil pesto, and sometimes basil is too much for me. The dinner was easy to make, but the basil was overwhelming so I didn't love it. I think I'll try it again, but with a tomato pesto next time. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Sunday, August 1, 2010. Sunday, May 16, 2010. That is a great s...
