4 acres and a stream: October 2014

http://4acresandastream.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

4 acres and a stream. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Gardening in Late October. We still have fall gold raspberries! And many, not just a few here and there. I need to cut them back but I am waiting for frost. I may start cutting some back now and give the goats a treat. The peppers are also going strong, as well as the marigolds and, of course, the swiss chard. I don't remember the garden looking this great this late in the season. Monday, October 27, 2014. Working on More Firewood. We were able to back t...

4 acres and a stream: Quarantining the Quarantined

http://4acresandastream.blogspot.com/2015/08/quarantining-quarantined.html

4 acres and a stream. Saturday, August 15, 2015. She looks very stylish in her little make-do treatment booties. Yesterday I worked 16 hours so her treatment was done by my husband and daughter. I had not seen her hooves since my original examination 2 days ago. I was relieved to see great improvement. No more odor, no more redness, no more limping. 4 acres and a stream: Pasture Renovation Update

http://4acresandastream.blogspot.com/2015/08/pasture-renovation.html

4 acres and a stream. Sunday, August 16, 2015. There is much work still ahead on the renovation of our pastures. The sheep and goats have been busy munching away on the brush. Fall is the best time for seeding (by end of Sept) so it will soon be time to get out the roots and stumps in prep for seeding. Our new brush hog to mow pasture after grazing worked great. I had been trying to scythe down the tall weeds left in the paddock when I moved the sheep. But the brush hog works so much better. Knee Deep in...

4 acres and a stream: July 2015

http://4acresandastream.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

4 acres and a stream. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. They Are Getting Braver. The kittens have been hanging out on the patio more and more but tonight they slept in a big cat pile right outside the patio door. After they woke up they had a grand old time wrestling, prancing, and climbing. They are so much fun to watch. The kittens are learning to eat in the cat carrier. We are hoping to be able to catch them in the cat carrier to take them to get neutered. Keeping our fingers crossed. Thursday, July 23, 2015.

4 acres and a stream: The New Sheep

http://4acresandastream.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-new-sheep.html

4 acres and a stream. Monday, August 3, 2015. Finding Coopworths, especially an adult breeding ram proved to be harder. I also wanted to buy from a breeder that I respected. We ended up finding just such a breeder, but five hours away. Martha at Deer Run Farm participates in the National Sheep Improvement Program. The drive through the mountains of Virginia/West Virginia was absolutely lovely. And if I wasn't worried about hauling sheep in a trailer I could have enjoyed it more. Right now the new sheep a...

4 acres and a stream: May 2015

http://4acresandastream.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

4 acres and a stream. Sunday, May 31, 2015. The Barn Addition and Rain Barrels. The contractor finished up the work on the barn Thursday. This weekend Alan put the gutter back up, raked out the dirt and seeded. It was great using this rainwater to water the garden last year. Our well is not very deep and will run dry if I water everything in the garden, or less if I just washed a load of laundry. Thursday, May 28, 2015. Harvesting the Cover Crop. The definite winner is the scythe. Wednesday, May 27, 2015.

4 acres and a stream: August 2015

http://4acresandastream.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

4 acres and a stream. Monday, August 31, 2015. Alan had a very busy weekend getting the water line into the house. Our well is in a concrete "bunker" next to the house and the water line goes out of the bunker and into the house. Once the tank was out of the way Alan had lots of room to cut the hole for the water line. Getting into the house was the easy part. The current line from the well had plenty of room for another line to. Slide right in next to it. Tomorrow we get more stone spread in the parking...

http://4acresandastream.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

4 acres and a stream. Thursday, April 30, 2015. The stray cat situation seems to have narrowed itself down to one cat. All the other cats have been gone for months. That left this little tiger:. Wednesday, April 29, 2015. After quite a few zaps, ram 0006 was the slowest learner, they all seem to respect that little white rope. Yesterday ram 0006 came up to within a foot of the rope, looked at it, then backed away. Good boy! Sunday, April 26, 2015. The Kindness of Gardeners. Saturday, April 25, 2015.

Books I’m Reading. Books I’m Reading. Experiencing life with God, people, and place. The Radical Act of Reading Scripture. By gary franklin@bellsouth.net July 16, 2015 Category Spiritual Journey. I recently suggested to our church family that the amount of time we spend on social media or watching our favorite Cable News Network compared to the amount of time we spend with God’s Word, prayer or other spiritual habits is likely a good barometer of how anxious or peaceful we are as well […].
