Monday, November 06, 2006. Greenwich is famous for being home to the Prime Meridian Longitude 0 0’ 0 the beginning of time and space measurement in this world. We went to Greenwich on 28th October, the day before Britain moved its clocks back from British Summer Time to GMT. At Greenwich pier we saw the entrance to the foot tunnel which (as the name suggests) is a pedestrian tunnel under the River Thames. Imagine walking under a river! Greenwich Park is a vast park along the River Thames with a very good...

First Impressions: March 2007

Wednesday, March 21, 2007. Posted by Sharayu at 9:54 PM. The weather forecast for the day was sunny intervals and in one such interval, we saw a spectacular rainbow arching across the sky. We were crossing the Bristol Channel towards Cardiff and we had a stunning view of the complete arc. The rainbow stayed with us for a long time almost until we reached Cardiff. Once past the barrage we reached a cliff with neat rows of houses running alongside the bay. Imagine living right at the edge of the water!

Thursday, December 21, 2006. Great Expectations - I. I first visited London on 24th September. Our journey began at Waterloo Tube Station. We emerged out from the tube station and walked towards the River Thames. As we moved towards the Thames the giant Millennium Wheel (London Eye) towered above us. It was much larger than I had imagined it to be and it moves very slowly, completing 1 revolution in about 30 minutes. Posted by Sharayu at 3:22 PM. Sunday, December 17, 2006. As You Like It. One of the impo...

Tuesday, February 27, 2007. A Study in Scarlet. Can you guess what this post is about? I can almost hear some of my friends saying, Elementary, my dear Sharayu, and they would be quite right. This is indeed about one of my favourite detectives Sherlock Holmes. It was sheer delight to see the wax figures and recollect the stories associated with them. The museum is a must-see for any Sherlock Holmes’ fan. Posted by Sharayu at 7:32 PM. Wednesday, February 07, 2007. To the fans of Jane Austen’s work the cit...

The Wind in the Willows. No just a trip to the Isle. As You Like It. On November 25th we went on another group outing. This time the tour was a mixed bag. We were to visit a medieval castle, an Indian temple, a shopping mall and then top it all off with an IMAX movie. There was something for everyone. Almost a 100 people had signed up for this trip so we set out in two big buses hired for the day. The nest interesting area was ‘The Mound’, which is a small hill with watch towers set upon it (another of t...

Monday, October 23, 2006. No just a trip to the Isle of Wight. Last weekend we went to the Isle of Wight (IW). I felt like Alice in Wonderland. The trip was organised by the company for all its Indian employees currently deputed to work in the UK. It was organised as a Diwali celebration for all those who were away from home and family. Ryde is a charming coastal town with a long pier which is around 200 years old. It is built of wood with solid iron railings. There is a railway line that extends...From ...
