The deer to the right of this photo is a "Pie Bald". A good friend of mine sent me the photos taken in the Northern adirondacks of New York. The "Pie Bald" happens to be a doe. Sorry guys!

Taking the actual pictures may be simple if you can view the deer through windows. I choose to do so because first of all, I don't disturb the animals. Secondly, I have outside floodlights that illuminate my yard good enough to get some great photos. One thing to remember though, don't use a flash through glass or you will get bright spots in your photos. This big girl was about 15' from my window. If I had used a flash, she might have been frightened off. Crab apples are a favorite snack of this female.

Whitetail deer feed on various food sources. Grasses, young twigs, acorns, beech nuts, corn, garden vegetables, etc. They are very adaptive to the area they happen to be in. Area feed stores like farm supplies and even pet stores carry a wide variety of wild animal food. It is also important to have water nearby. It could be a simple birdbath with a heater to prevent ice in winter. I am lucky to have a stream nearby, so water was not an issue.

Every so often, other animals show up in search of a free meal. I have had red fox, wild turkeys, more gray squirrels than you can imagine, and of course wild birds. Here are a few photos of other friends. Moose about 2 miles from our home.
