Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Ahh, how the road smells so different from the home! As good as it has been to live in the middle of nowhere and enjoy the smells of nature and the country sky day in and day out, escaping for a few days a few times in the past few weeks was GREEEEATTTTT! I feel secure in my identity as a city person; this identity is reborn and refueled on the energy of a city. About two weeks ago I took the Amtrak (first timer! It was so worth it! I might be a bit dated with my NYC lingo)!

Finn turned 5 today. :-) we had a surprise DONUT treat for him this morning, plus balloons and presents from his brothers and grandparents. grandma from Oregon sent him 5 cards that arrived on 5 separate days and contained $20 each, which Finny just LOVED. Jake and grandma decided to make pizza. they went to the store, got all necessary ingredients, Jake paid for everything. Jake made the crust, sautéed the toppings, and baked this delicious thing just in time for us to return from the swim meet. (he also made quite a mess, but that's just part of the creative process!
