Tenterfield is known as the location of Sir Henry Parkes' 'Birth of a Nation' speech in 1889, which eventually led to the Federation of Australia in 1901. This town on the Great Diving Range also has associations with some other well known figures of Australias past. In the mid-1880s bushranger Captain Thunderbolt (alias Frederick Ward) was active in the area while local solicitor Major J.F. Thomas is noted for his defence of Harry The Breaker Morant. Deloraine offers a choice of separate rooms, Federation Suite, Banjo Pattison Room, Peter Alan Room and Deloraine Cottage, or depending on your needs you may book all bedrooms for a large family or group of up to 9. With its own private entrance The Federation Suite is located on the western wing of the main house, and was part of the original building. It has a separate sitting room, its own bathroom, plus heating courtesy of a slow combustion firebox. Only a short stroll from shops ,cafes and restaurant.

The property known as “Deloraine” consists of two parcels of land which were first purchased in the pursuance of the proclamation of September 16, 1858 and the original grant is now displayed in the formal dining room of “Deloraine”. The original grantee was Edmund Curry whose descendants still reside in the district.
