Chocolate Boosts Brain Health. November 1, 2016. I recently encountered a fascinating study on the Harvard Health website, and was intrigued when I read this headline: Cocoa: a sweet treat for the brain? A Chocolate Boost Makes Your Brain Boast. I am also in love with this Maine-Syracuse Longitudinal Study (MSLS), of 968 people that includes these mouth-watering assertions:. More Delicious Cocoa-flavored News. And another study from Loma Linda University, states:. We are tremendously excited about what t...

Dementia Resources - Embracing Age
http://www.embracingage.org.uk/dementia.html
Our Trustees and Staff. Activities in churches for older people. Dementia. A word which evokes such a broad range of emotions, depending on your experience and understanding. Apparently it's the most feared illness in the over 50's. Yes those living with the disease tell us that it is possible to live well with dementia. One thing that I have heard time and again is how people living with dementia and their families can feel isolated, as friends stop visiting and going out becomes more challenging. The a...

Minds in Motion — Dance and Movement
http://mindsinmotion.org.uk/teams/view/dance-and-movement
This group is all about getting people moving. Some people might dance or play skittles; others may do well just to place a hoop on a peg. As with other groups, activities are tailored to individuals’ abilities. All the community units we visit have a great selection of games to play, including skittles, hoopla, metallic darts and basketball. Clients are encouraged to have a go and are assisted as required. It’s surprising how competitive some of them are! What Do Volunteers Do? Page for more information.

Minds in Motion — Restoration
http://mindsinmotion.org.uk/teams/view/restoration
This is a new activity which has been included to encourage men at the units to participate. By helping to fix up an old piece of furniture, clients have something to focus on and regain a sense of purpose. Being of an older generation, they probably have more skill in this area than we do. This part of the project is therefore an opportunity for roles to be reversed, with the client becoming the teacher. What Do Volunteers Do? If you're interested in getting involved, please visit the Volunteering.
