The phlegmatic: December 2014
http://www.phlegmaticblog.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Let's talk about this calmly. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. The police state, or maybe the police municipality. Tomorrow a new law goes into effect in Austin. It will be illegal to use a cell phone, as well as a variety of other devices, while driving or cycling, unless the device is being used in a hands-free fashion. A question this raises in my mind: will the police abide by this law? So I wonder, will police officers be expected to refrain from touching any of their electronic devices while driving?

The phlegmatic: What's the point of a college education?
http://www.phlegmaticblog.com/2015/02/whats-point-of-college-education.html
Let's talk about this calmly. Sunday, February 15, 2015. What's the point of a college education? I pointed out that many undergraduates don't want and aren't getting the education that we are trying to provide, and I suggested that everyone would be better off if viable alternatives to a traditional education were available. Let's talk about this calmly. Thursday, September 19, 2013. Something I don't understand. And if we are setting rules about how we may behave during times of conflict, why not go a step further and say that killing is not allowed at all? I feel I must be missing something. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Recently, while walking through the campus of State University, I saw a number of notices for student organizations, many of which did not have "University" in the name. That tells me two things: students value the organizations themselves, but the resources that the university devotes to student organizations are largely wasted. I thi...
