I took a motorcycle class to get re-certified and learned an important principle that goes way beyond riding two wheelers. The instructor emphasized over and over in both the classroom and on the course that when you’re making a turn you want to look through the turn look where you’re going and not at the obstacle near your path that you’re afraid you’re going to hit.

Helen had witnessed his arrival several times in the last two years, ever since he had come that awful night for her husband, Bud. Sixty-two years of marriage ended by a heart attack. At the time, she thought he was one of Bud’s golfing buddies in his green polo shirt and jeans. Short Story Contest Escape. July 8, 2015. I looked up, startled. That clock hadn’t moved in a thousand years, so they say. And yet, I heard the sound distinctly. I leaned on the bars of my cage. I could see the clock in the square clearly. Had seen it dozens of times before. But today, there was something new. A man wearing a black trench coat, gray pants, and a green top hat sat on the big hand, asleep. At least I thought so, until he nodded at me. I must be punch drunk from the prefight last night.
