From the Den:: Not So Recent News
http://dennispower.blogspot.com/2011/08/not-so-recent-news.html
Wednesday, August 3, 2011. Not So Recent News. I haven't posted to the blog in quite some time. For many reasons my heart was just not into doing so. However I know that I have been remiss in doing so. Anyone who visited recently has seen that I added a bibliography page. If you have visited that you will have seen that in the past couple of years I have added to my published body of work. In The Other Log of Phileas Fogg, Philip Jose Farmer's secret history of the events behind Around the World in 80 Da...

http://dennispower.blogspot.com/2008/12/what-if-part-four.html
Sunday, December 7, 2008. What if Part Four. Continuing from my previous posts on the subject of alternate history. The Third main category of alternate history is the cross-time travel alternate history. The term is a bit of a misnomer since most versions of the cross-time alternate history story do not involved anything to do with time or time travel. The term came into prevalence because of Murray Leinster's seminal crosstime travel story Sideways in Time. By Keith Laumer. Blake Walker was also fo...
From the Den:: What If Part deux

Wednesday, December 3, 2008. What If Part deux. In my previous blog I stated that there are three main categories alternate history. There are the straight forward alternate histories which tell a story derived from a historical point of divergence. The author may or may not tell the reader what the POD is. One of the best examples of the straight forward alternate history is Robert Sobol’s For Want of a Nail: If Burgoyne Had Won at Saratoga. Sobol's book remains one of the classic books in the genre.

Friday, December 5, 2008. What if Part Three. Continuing from my previous posts on the subject of alternate history. The second main category of alternate history is the time travel derived alternate history. These often vary widely on how much allohistorical content is actually present in the novel. About a Union that had suffered a defeat in the American Civil War and John Brunner's. Also featured mini alternate histories which the protagonists had to fix to fix the timeline. One of the common trop...
From the Den:: The Evil in Pemberley House: A Review
http://dennispower.blogspot.com/2009/05/evil-in-pemberley-house-review.html
Saturday, May 23, 2009. The Evil in Pemberley House: A Review. The Evil in Pemberley House. A darkly erotic thriller. One of the more exciting books coming out this summer is The Evil in Pemberley House by Philip Jose Farmer and Win Scott Eckert. Although some reviews may call The Evil in Pemberley House a posthumous work, it is not. Although it will be published after Phil Farmer’s passing, the novel was finished, approved by Farmer and bought by a publisher prior to his death. Most reviews will most li...

Friday, 19 August 2011. On the whole I find Microsoft products quite competent and usable. I came across Webmatrix. Quite recently, billed as a simple web page design tool, where websites can be created and published for free. The home page for the application had the Wordpress logo on it so I thought it was worth downloading and having a look. I already have Artisteer. It was probably the quickest time software was on my computer before being removed. And, of course, all the twelve applications had ...

Wednesday, 15 June 2011. I also did the usual uninstalling of software not needed to create more space on the hard drive. I came across a shook: Adobe Reader 9 MUI takes up 650 MB of space! For a PDF reader! What are they thinking? Anyway, apparently Novalyne Price Ellis was angry at the way Howard was portrayed by de Camp and dug out her diaries to set the record straight. The result was the book, also filmed as The Whole Wide World. Another book followed later. Links to this post. A Gathering Of Words.

High School Students are Capable of Incredible Things. There seems to be an attitude in the world today that says that High School students only look out for themselves and are incapable of making the world a better place. Many adults seem to discount them as a waste of time or just a bunch of hoodlums who are looking for trouble. The things mentioned above are tragic, and there are many things we need to do to fix them. Click to continue…]. YMI Launches Training in West Africa. I spent last week in Nige...
