But there’s this Cinderella problem with the term “stepmom.” It seems almost impossible to disentangle from the word “wicked.” I don’t know of any little girl that dreams of growing up to be a stepmom. This isn’t a fully formed thought yet, but it has occurred to me that there is something very undermining about disrespecting the role of the biological mom in the children’s lives. If I want to validate my position as the stepmom, that means acknowledging the role of the mom. Stepmom as mother once removed. Asymp; Leave a comment. Well, it’s official. The initial shock I felt upon seeing the positive sign on the home pregnancy test was quickly replaced by nausea. The kind that doesn’t go away. It’s been a couple of weeks since we found out, and while I’m not feeling any better, the reality is starting to sink in. We’re having a baby! Husband thinks they’ll handle it well.
