Thursday, July 21, 2011. McNab Ridge Napoli Vineyard Pinotage 2009. Heavy rose, ripe red berry fruit, waft of flowery perfume and touches of earthy, mineral slate. Thursday, July 14, 2011. Brophy Clark Pinot Noir 2009. This Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County displays a richer and somewhat deeper purple color than most and had a slight cloudiness to it's overall opacity. The initial aromas jump with bright strawberry and grassy warm notes of cherry followed by hints of smoke and leather.

Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Black Diamond Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010. After a long hiatus - one of us was pregnant for a while and had a baby - Denver Wine Press is back in action. Today's sampling comes from Guadagni Family Wines. Scent: Heady mix of warm fruit, dried roses and oak. Throw in some spices and a hint of eucalyptus. Palate: The usual suspects of oak and plum up front, easing into earth and spice with a dry and long, slightly sweet finish. Tannins are light. Follow us on Facebook.

Monday, September 17, 2012. Root 1 Carmenere 2010. I admit that Carmenere is one of my favorites. It's not as tannic as Cabernet Sauvignon, not as jammy as Merlot, more full-bodied than Pinot Noir and generally very versatile. This Carmenere is made in the Colchagua Valley of Chile, and I'm a fan. Deep burgundy color. Scents of perfume rose, sweet sawdust, fig, plum, raisin. Mmmmm With scents of wood with warm pepper and spice, leather and deep dark fruit, this Cabernet is rich with a soft chalky texture and a lingering finish. Oh wait, that's just the nose.
