Railway Eye - the railway blog: Derby does Westminster!
http://railwayeye.blogspot.com/2014/02/derby-does-westminster.html
Wednesday, 12 February 2014. The Derby Mafia took over Parliament last night, courtesy of Mid Derbyshire MP Pauline Latham. MPs, Peers, members of the Derby and Derbyshire Rail Forum, their customers and the wider industry marked the 175th anniversary of the railway's arrival in Derby. And by happenstance, also celebrated the award of the Crossrail fleet to a local manufacturer. Meanwhile, Eye wonders what on earth Captain Deltic said that DG Rail could so vigorously agree with? Eye salutes Bob and sends heartfelt condolences to RMT colleagues and, of course, Bob's family. Telegrammed by The Fact Compiler. To contact The Fact Compiler please email:. The Fact Compiler reads. Some random observations about the world of communications. It’s OK to be cheered by choo choos. This year, Derby celebrates its 175th anniversary as a railway town. It’s fortunate then that I wasn’t involved in the building of the first leg of the Midland Counties Railway. Between Nottingham and Derby, which saw its first passenger train steam into Derby on 30 May 1839, an event celebrated in the media in the last few weeks. The line still exists today as part of the route run by East Midlands Trains.
