DERRICK G. JETER. Engaging Ideas at the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom. August 3, 2011. Thomas Jefferson on Debt. The current debt debate in the United States Congress whether we should raise the debt ceiling, raise taxes, or cut spending set me to thinking about what Thomas Jefferson would think about America’s $14.2 trillion debt. Why? We should] put off buying anything until we have the money to pay for it. (. Letter to Dr. Currie. Letter to Nicholas Lewis. Letter to Destutt Trace. I place economy am...
The Myth of “The Orator” | DERRICK G. JETER

DERRICK G. JETER. Engaging Ideas at the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom. The Myth of “The Orator”. By Derrick G. Jeter. When Pericles speaks, the people say, ‘How well he speaks.’ But when Demosthenes speaks, the people say, ‘Let us march! Pericles’ praise of Demosthenes’ persuasive appeal could have applied to Barack Obama in 2007 and 2008. But today, the one who won the moniker The Orator can hardly win the applause of an audience conservative or liberal. But these are political bromides platitudes app...

DERRICK G. JETER. Engaging Ideas at the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom. Before the Towers Fell. By Derrick G. Jeter. When Chris Williams, Jan White, and I traveled to Boston on September 8, 2001, the events of 9/11 the destruction and death were as alien to our minds as little green men from Mars. In fact, the entire weekend seemed like something from another world, and it began with a ridiculous trip from the Boston airport to our downtown hotel. What did he mean by. Hotel, and we wouldn’t want to keep...

Gaither Trails: April 2009
http://gaithertrails.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 30, 2009. Part 2: The Arrival! So we finally had Zihua in our sights! The Journey" we had taken, made "The Arrival" that much sweeter! The bay in the center is where we were headed! When we landed at the airport, I felt the need to pinch myself to make sure it was real! We were so excited! It didn't even really phase us that our luggage had not made it there with us. We were just glad to be in Zihuatanejo finally. We arrived at the resort and it was amazing! The next day we took a trip in...

Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Do I hear 30. To the couple on the back row who has no clue what they are doing! Ok, so recently we were finally able to go to this antique auction near our house that we have been wanting to attend since we moved here. There was some stained glass windows being auctioned off at this particular sale and we had our eye out for a piece for one of our windows. However, once arriving, there was sooo much more! It was more than just shopping - it was entertainment! Finally about ...
Gaither Trails: The Nutcracker
http://gaithertrails.blogspot.com/2010/01/nutcracker.html
Friday, January 1, 2010. The weekend before Christmas, me and some of the girls in our small group at church had dinner downtown and went to see the Nutcracker. Dinner was great, but think the Nutcracker might just be a once every 10 years or so event though. I think I am more a musical kind of girl than ballet. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics over the weekend, but Alicia snapped these shots as they were leaving Sunday and I swiped a pic of Collin and Grant off Alicia's blog. They looked much like this on Saturday at our house though; all suited up in their game day attire! We had so much fun with him. He entertained us all weekend. Gaither Trails: Christmas Party

Friday, January 1, 2010. After we returned from our ski trip, we hosted a Christmas party at our house for our small group at church. Jarrod made a huge pot of gumbo that we are still eating on! After we ate, we had an elephant gift exchange with some very interesting gifts which I don't think I can display on our blog without blushing. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Gaither Trails: May 2009

Monday, May 25, 2009. Our most recent purchase for the house was a French Oak Harvest table for our breakfast area that we purchased at our favorite place, the Austin Auction. Also notice in the background, our new refrigerator that we are really proud of especially since it took Jarrod and 2 guys taking our front door off the hinges to get it into the house! Sunday, May 24, 2009. Gaither Family Reunion 2009. The weight limit on the package said 1800 lbs and I'm pretty sure we pushed it to the limit!

Tuesday, January 27, 2009. Dad came up to visit us last Thursday. We went out for some tasty dinners at an italian place called Rocco's on Thursday and tried out the new steakhouse in Steiner Ranch on Friday. Both were very good. The steakhouse is 3 stories and has an amazing view of Lake Travis, but also serves up some really great food! We'll definitely go again. Dad and I also explored a Texas vineyard near Austin called Stonehouse Vineyard. Jarrod and I with my Mimi. Monday, January 26, 2009. Later S...

Today, for the most part, was overcast and dull, although the sun did emerge on our way back from Calshot where Jackie drove us this afternoon.
