The Hasties in South America: April 2011
http://thehastiesinsouthamerica.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
The Hasties in South America. Friday, April 29, 2011. A couple of weekends ago, Katie and I went on a very cool hike with my friend Sandy (who I’m volunteering for), his daughter Tarn (who goes to school with Katie) and Sandy’s brother Bill (visiting from Canada). Katie and I got off to an early start, catching a bus out of Pisac at 5:30 am to the town of Lamay where Sandy lives and where we needed to catch a ride to the start of the hike. Once the friend showed up, we were pretty cramped back there.

The Hasties in South America: Changing Lives, for Better and Worse
http://thehastiesinsouthamerica.blogspot.com/2011/08/changing-lives-for-better-and-worse.html
The Hasties in South America. Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Changing Lives, for Better and Worse. Worrying seems to have been my volunteer 'project' here in Peru. For the past 3 1/2 months (has it been that long? We also lucked out with a very special exception to a Portland School District rule and they held a spot for the student at Cleveland High, 1/2 mile from our house. The hard part was now over. or so I thought. I learned how to create my own website expresssly for fundraising. I made connections ...

The Hasties in South America. Monday, July 25, 2011. It´s time for a little travel update from the Hasties. We´ve been traveling for about 12 days now. That means lots of miles; lots and lots of buses, combis and taxis; many sights; and even more photos. Here´s a quick summary of a few of the highlights:. Paracas Reserve and the Ballestas Islands. Moche Pyramids and Chan Chan. That´s enough for now. In the next few days we´ll see more of the northern coast of Peru, including stops in Lambay...This change...

Monday, August 1, 2011. Ayni, Pago a la Tierra, A trip to the Lowlands, Construction Updates, pigs heads and other fun stuff! August 1, 2011. Pago a la Tierra:. Today, August 1, and throughout this month, in the Andean tradition is the traditional day to honor and make a “payment” to the earth. Throughout this area, people today have sprinkled yellow confetti on the ground around their homes, business and chakras. This is related to the Andean value called ayni. Our Chilean friend Veronica came with us.

Sunday, August 28, 2011. Techado, corte de pelos y fiestas. August 28, 2011. The time is flying! In 9 days, we leave Peru and head back to the States. I have been so busy that I it is taking me until now to sit down and update this blog. What has been goin. Well, we had our roofing party, the techado. It was a big affair! Probably 75 people came including the workers, their families, and our friends. The workers ceremoniously placed a pair of ceramic llamas and the Andean chakana. In the corte de pelo.

The Hasties in South America: Coming Home
http://thehastiesinsouthamerica.blogspot.com/2011/10/coming-home.html
The Hasties in South America. Tuesday, October 4, 2011. As we started loading our bags into it, I noted that, as opposed to our first taxi ride, this time we had more stuff and less taxi. Lucky for me, my husband had been ever-accommodating: he carried two of his own backpacks, plus mine, from Portland to Los Angeles to Lima to Cusco to Pisac. This time, strengthened by months of high-altitude living, lots of walking and simply time passing, I could do my fair share. We were all too crammed together to f...
