Mojave and Death Valley

Mojave and Death Valley. Tuesday, March 22, 2005. Welcome to my blog on the trip my dad and I took to the Mojave Desert and Death Valley on March 16th and 17th 2005. I put this blog together as a way to share the pictures. Posted by Life Saver at 4:10 PM. Some pictures from the end of our trip as we finished making out way through Death Valley (at least the southern half) and started on our way out. Sand Dunes" was the name applied to these splendid dunes outside of Stovepipe Wells. The long road out.

Mojave and Death Valley: Pisgah crater

http://deserttrip.blogspot.com/2005/03/pisgah-crater.html

Mojave and Death Valley. Friday, March 18, 2005. Pisgah crater is off on its own, 30 miles northwest of the next cider cone, Amboy crater. Pisgah is easy to get too. A quarry road leads half way up the cinder cone, and is surrounded by 10 miles of lava flow. The view of the cinder cone about half way up. Me inside the crater. View from the summit. I believe those mountains mark the boundary of the Mojave National Park (train for scale). View of the lava fields from the summit (truck for scale). Posted by...

Mojave and Death Valley: Mitchell Caverns

http://deserttrip.blogspot.com/2005/03/mitchell-caverns.html

Mojave and Death Valley. Friday, March 18, 2005. Our next stop was Mitchell Caverns. Mitchell Caverns are within the boundary of the Mojave National Park. They are further down the 40 than Pisgah crater and within Park boundaries. They give tours at 1:30 on Weekdays, and three times a day on weekends. There were actually 15-20 people with us on the Wednesday we went, we were quite surprised at the turn out. Another picture of our view. This piece of limestone had a lot of quartz in it. Entering the cave ...

Mojave and Death Valley. Tuesday, March 22, 2005. Some pictures from the end of our trip as we finished making out way through Death Valley (at least the southern half) and started on our way out. Sand Dunes" was the name applied to these splendid dunes outside of Stovepipe Wells. The small town of Stovepipe Wells, still well inside Death Valley. No more than a minute after taking this picture, someone actually fed the crows. I am completely serious. The long road out. The setting sun and the damage done.

Get outside and explore! Amazing adventures are just outside your door! Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Redrock Canyon and the Trona Pinnacles. This was a day trip that could easily be made into a very nice weekend. You can easily make this into a weekend by taking the road west towards Kernville. And spending some time in the Sequoia national forest, or by continuing on route 178 into Death Valley. We started our adventure by driving up to Redrock. Canyon tells it's fascinating. Story of a moving volcano.
